When a turkey/card shoot says it will mike your barrel, how much choke is too much? May shoot some Ohio shoots.

Would have to see the program to answer that. Splatter card shoots where I am doesn't do that.

They call card shoots/splatter card shoots around here - Spot shoots. Some of the Spots shoots around here are limiting the guns to factory barrels only. I don't shoot Spot shoots myself but our club has a couple of those shoots each year. They are a good money maker. We can make more money on one Spot shoot than we can on a half dozen trap shoots. We don't restrict guns at our shoot, and you should see some of the guns those Spot shooters bring. 50" barrels with scopes, the walls of the barrels are a good 3/4" thick, and shooting a 12 gauge shell through em sounds like a .22 short being shot. And you should see some of the shot being put into those cards - tight, and I mean tight pattern.

Still it is a crap shoot - 1 guy can put one pellet into the card and it lands on the cross hair and he wins - while the next card has 200 pellets in it and the guy gets nothing.

Years ago guys would put grease or Vaseline in their barrels to try and slow the shot down to hold a tighter pattern.

I never seen the attraction of the game myself. I want to shoot something that moves and shoot more than one shell every half an hour. I guess that is why I'm on the trap side of the club when we have those shoots.

I’ve heard of shoots that require a 20ga. shell to fit in muzzle to shoot. Like a go no go gauge.

Do you mean to check the choke? Roger C.

If the "X" is wiped out the score is tossed out. To tight of a choke is not an edge. A well spread is. Roger C.

Shot a card shoot years ago and asked what restrictions,if any, were on what you shot at the card. Was told no restrictions as long as was a shotgun. I took out my TM1 which was fixed choke of close to .040 and a 11/8 oz #9 factory AA shell. Absolutely smoke balled the card. They refused to pay me. Certainly no question i was closest to the center in my mind. They even refused to give me my entry fee back. Got even, won their sporting clay shoot and have never been back to that club to this day.

Like WPT said - at our club they resorted to the help putting the shell in the gun.
