My Top 10 Trap Clubs that are no more 10 to 6

I've been very fortunate to shoot a lot of Registered Trap Shoots since 1974. The other day when Britt and I got to talking about the old days it got me to thinking about all the clubs I'd shot at that didn't exist anymore. So here is my top ten list from 10th to 1st and my personal high scores. I'm posting numbers 10 through 6 on this post and 5 through 1 later.

10. Las Vegas, NV the Mint Gun Club - I'd never shot particularly well at the Mint but I loved the money, the atmosphere, and the competition. High Handicap score 99, high singles 200, high doubles 99

9. Reno, NV Sage Hill - I shot very well at this club and won a lot of things at the golden west grand there over the years. Reno was a fun town, I hated to see the golden west grand decay like it did. High Handicap 100, high singles 200, high doubles 100

8. Phoenix, AZ Phoenix Gun Club - I never broke a 100 at caps at this club but I won as many handicaps here as any club I can remember. They had big shoots, terrible trap help, pretty good targets and money. Shot the first Spring Grand they had this club. High handicap 99, high singles 200, high doubles 100

7. Tampa, FL Cigar City Gun Club - I only shot this club once but I made it the 27 yard line there in 1975 and won my first real trapshooting trophies at a BIG registered shoot. I almost won a car, Morris Stienbring broke a 99 from 27 yards, unheard of in FL back then, in the second 100 of the caps to beat me. I've never won a car trap shooting. High handicap 98 Didn't shoot singles or doubles that I can remember.

6. Springfield, ILL Mather Land of Sports - I shot many Illinois State shoots and some other money shoots here over the years. Nice place to shoot. All the good shots of the day would be there. High Handicap 99, high singles 200, high doubles 100.

 

Thank you so much for including all of your scores, but could you perhaps talk about why these clubs are gone rather than share your personal accomplishments?

Your posts are very informative. What you have accomplished on the trap field must have taken a lot of practice. Keep up the good work!

 

The very first time I traveled out west to the old Phoenix Club to shoot I was so intimidated I never signed up and was a spectator for almost 4 days ... Now, it seems a little silly but I was a lot younger and had not been shooting for a long time so thats the way it went though not planned that way ... I think every big gun including Brad Dysinger was there and I made it a point to watch each and everyone one of them as they shot ... Interested in seeing the rest of Brads favored clubs, makes for interesting reading ... Be nice to have a "Where are they now " section on americantrapshooting.com just for some additional highlights ... wpt ... (yac) ...

 

Brad please continue with your list. I too liked the old Las Vegas Gun Club shot my best cap scores there.

 

Well Brad was a great ambassador for the sport, I wish I could have done the same thing, But some of us had a job and kids, maybe in the next life.

 

Brad it was nice information on your scores at those clubs, it says a lot about that clubs ability to pull in great shots of the day, and it helps in why the clubs are not in business anymore. I didn't remember one of those clubs, thanks for the rememberances.
