UPS no longer shipping gun's?

I went to the local UPS Center today to ship a gun and was told that UPS will no longer ship gun's or gun part's. I mentioned that I would take it to the post office and ship it USPS. UPS claimed that USPS won't ship it either. By time I drove to the post office they were closed so I couldn't get USPS's claim verified. Has anyone else heard of this? If all of this is true then I wonder about FedEx?

 

Just shipped a gun USPS last week -- sold online, got the FFl and dealer said I couldn't send it USPS. --Some new rule --Had the Money for gun --Put it in a box -- went to the post office --Read the screen that said no flammable-ect-ect - Nothing was said about a gun? didn't declare otherwise -- Shipped it out -- FFL must have got it -- Buyer got the gun?

 

I just recently shipped a gun FFL to FFL UPS. No problem.

I shipped a barrel USPS that was supposed to be delivered Sat. So far it hasn't made it.

 

This was non FFL to FFL. not sure if that matters or not and was told UPS's new policy went into effect in October

 

I just went on the USPS's website and could not find anything stating that you can not mail a firearm as long as all requirements are met and the gun abides by the 1968 Gun Control Act. If I find out I was fed a line of bullshit by some anti gun UPS employee he's going to get a rash of you know what from me!!!

Only official UPS stores would ship handguns. Non-company owned franchises could only shotguns.

Again there is a difference between UPS owned stores and privately owned franchises.

 

This was a UPS carrier center, where UPS trucks load and ship from. I would think it would be company owned. Who want's to take the time and trouble to get licensed with them if your only shipping maybe a couple of guns every other year?

This is all about the lawyers trying to cover their azzes. Remington got sued. Now the government said that S&W can be sued because that nutjob used a S&W AR15 rifle. They fear that their carrier companies could be next because they were used to ship the gun to the FFL that sold the piece to the idiot. FedX did it first and UPS followed.

The ONLY WAY you can ship a firearm, long gun or handgun, thru either of these two carriers is if you have a FFL on BOTH ends.

This has nothing to do with "stores" or hubs. The stores NEVER did ship firearms. You had to go to a "hub". Did it dozens of times. Give them a copy of the receiving FFL, pay the jacked up price to ship it and away it went. The buyer paid the fee, so it wasn't on me. (They started that overnight or 2nd day stuff after their employees started stealing guns shipped "Ground". The longer it sat around the more opportunities they had to steal them).

Now? I don't know if they would accept a copy of a license from your FFL if you were the one trying to ship the piece. How would the clerk know that it was legit? You can go to a site like GA and download a person's FFL. I received a "legit" FFL once from a guy in MD. I smelled a rat and after investigating I found that it was a copy of someone else's license.

You can take a firearm to a FedX store, but there again, would they ship it if you showed up with a copy of a FFL and it wasn't yours?

Probably the best way to ship a handgun is to have your FFL ship it for you. If yours is like mine, he will have you pay only the shipping costs. Being a close friend of the guy for over 50 years has its perks. If you have to go to a FFL that isn't a friend, expect to pay a fee PLUS the cost of shipping.

Long guns go USPS Priority. I've shipped quite a few since I started selling my pals collection and have had ZERO problems.

And for anyone thinking of telling me that I need a FFL license or a tax number to sell my friends collection, save your BS for someone that doesn't know better.

The ATF makes the rules and they vary by who's doing the investigating,

 

Having recently dealt with this issue, I learned from a CG, that the shipper is making the rule. So actually the law has not changed, only the rules of the shipper. When I appealed to the CG not to play their game, they told me they were under contract and had no choice. So when they shipped my firearm back to me, I had to go to my local FFL holder and fill out another 4473 to get my gun back.
This is really bad for private owners who may have to ship a firearm that they own in for repairs. Because the major shippers will not ship to private citizens anymore, so you can't get it back without going thru an FFL holder. The FFL holder must follow the law and fill out a 4473.
It sounds to me like the powers that be are using shippers as a proxy to circumvent a law that would normally favor firearm owners.
