are the numbers up or down this year? my buddy in mo canceled in light of costs. wonder how many other did.
im wondering if they will ever need to use the fields down below or up on the hill with only 500? im thinking they'll have a fast turnaround on fields since reducing the east/west's total birds.
World has been declining for the past 20 years, but three main things affecting this years attendance, cost of entry($72 per event), fuel, and shell prices($12 to $15 per box).
wow. I remember in the 90's they just finished the new rv lot and were eager to build new fields down below and were in the process of doing it to deal with the influx of people. they were even building the rifle/pistol range for off season. sad indeed to see the game revert back to the well to do, sweeping the working class to the side. do they still use the field over on the dozen, to the right... closest to the entrance road? I remember the church was complaining of lead in their parking lot in the early 90's.
The last two fields to the East on vendors row, across the road from Catholic church are shut down. More so because of gunshots/noise during mass. The first field on the Dirty Dozen is closed,(I think its Field 30) because its to close to the road which across that road is a housing subdivision. Also there is new housing development just south of the practice fields on the hill. Fields 41-45. Lots of development all around the Shooting Complex.
back in the 90's I think it was 9, 1030, 1200, 130, 3. shoot offs started at 430. so....you can see why nssa went with 40 fields. they were aiming for 2000 in attendance.
The 2000 may have been the goal, but it has never got close. At the most it could possibly handle in a reasonable time frame using max 45 fields and 3 rotations is 675 for the Mini World. Three rotations and two events a day, overlapping some days. The Main is different since it mostly shoots one event a day. Without using the 5 fields on the hill(practice fields) and 3 fields shut down, leaves 37 fields .Basically 4 rotations a day and 1 hour for refs to have lunch, since its getting hard to find refs.
so, the practice fields are up near the old live bird range now? heck we use to compete on them. the only practice field was field 2 in my day...next to center court.
