Something to ponder. What happens to the funds to be collected at the grand (donation) if the ATA moves or if the HOF moves? At what point does the ATA quit mandating the fees? Once the place is paid for or when they get a new building? And if they ever move, will the hof stay there? The Vandalia HOF was there without a shoot? I report. You decide. Merlo out.
Merlo. Read the lease description. I think if the ATA leaves the Sparta location, they have 30 days to vacate the building or the contents transfer to the state of ILL. Check with HB, i'm sure he has the answer. Roger C.
What would happen if the loan went into default. Would the bank repo the building? Would the H.O.F. board members be on the hook for the money. HOW LEGAL IS A LOAN ON A BUILDING THAT YOU DO NOT OWN. That deal is another of the EC & X-EC cluster BUMPS. They are either the craftiest or the most inept people to ever be in the same room. Roger C.
180 Days according to the IDNR / THOF Agreement. I've heard rumor that originally the IDNR only wanted to give the THOF 3 months to remove everything from the museum building but Trustees were able to negotiate a 6-month window. To the best of my knowledge, bank loans were secured with the organization's financial portfolio used as collateral. Here are a couple documents helpful in explaining the sequence of events. First, officials of the Trapshooting Hall of Fame have made it clear that the Museum will relocate to wherever the Grand American is held. UPDATE: September 2015 - UPDATE: February 2016 But . . . . . . will the Trapshooting Hall of Fame own the museum & office they are constructing and operating on the massive IDNR's World Shooting Complex? The signed lease agreement says the "said Trapshooting Hall of Fame museum and offices to be owned by DNR." (As in ILLINOIS Department of Natural Resources) HB
Donation or assessment? Again, our leaders did not disclose that the $1.00 added to each event entrance fee was being used to pay for a building that was gifted to the State of Illinois. How that $1.00 THOF fee came about: From the August 2018 Executive Committee minutes: HB
First off, it is NOT the ATA Hall of Fame. Separate organization all together..."Trapshooting Hall of Fame" ATA gets the label all the time, and it is never made clear. I wonder just how many EC and BOD have any idea just what really is going on ??? Are any of them aware of the THOF NOT owning that building and that it is property of the STATE of Illinois ? Questions should be asked of these people by the members, WHO owns the THOF Building ??? I'm willing to bet you would get arguments over this issue from MANY Delegates....(Need to Know comes into play, remember?) And the one where Bradford wants to bleed the GUN MONEY of a dead man's gift from the ATA. Why not give the $10,000.00 to the widow ?
Kenny you and I have talked about the mess that Bradford and HOF trustees have made of the HOF Museum situation a lot and I know how much it bothers you. The bright side for me as a buckeye is that the Ohio State Trap Shooting Museum has got the benefits from this. Our museum is full from items being donated and loaned and we also have some cash in the bank, the bad news is we are out of space and need to expand our building space. Talks are ongoing about that I know. Jack told me at the Ohio state shoot this year that the new hotel that is going up at the CC is on the piece of ground that he tried to give to the HOF back in 2010? for their place to build. I can't remember the year for sure, just that you were in the meeting with us when Bradford blew the deal off before anyone had even heard the details or got to vote on it. I think Doc made them vote after the fact If I remember right I wonder if Bradford ever wishes he would have listened to us? .
It was August 2009 that Mr. Fishburn and OSTA members made the trip to Sparta to offer deeded land and financial support to the THOF if they would consider relocating to the Cardinal Center. The late Aden Kauffman made the Power Point presentation. Mr. Fishburn said he planned to "Adopt A Highway" in front of the shooting facility and have it beautifully landscaped so that all of the 44,000 cars passing by each and every day would be able to see the beautiful museum. While he could not make the promise, he indicated that he would do everything possible to assist with the construction of the museum and offices since he owned several construction companies. Dr. H. Lynn Parsons pressed hard to get the other Trustees to hear the offer of land, money & security. The decision was already made and the museum would not remain in Ohio even if Mr. Fishburn and the OSTA funded the entire project. Chairman Bradford did thank Mr. Fishburn for coming to Sparta and presenting his location to the Trapshooting Hall of Fame. He said the OSTA’s offer of $100,000 was very generous and greatly appreciated. He advised Mr. Fishburn that the Hall of Fame had a resolution on record of relocating with the Grand American Tournament. He also stated that after long and lively discussion by the Trustees, they voted to reaffirm that resolution. Dr. Parsons put up a good scrap but he was the only Trustee who acknowledged the dangers of relocating to Sparta. If its any consolation, Mr. Bradford did wish the Cardinal Shooting Center continued success. No way. He and the other Trustees still believe they made the right decision. They were all advised to expect diminished financial and artifact donations. I wonder if they've read the current IDNR / THOF lease agreement?
Lynn Parsons A man with integrity, who fought for what he believed was right for the THOF. Too bad the rest didn't listen.
Brad, I sure do hope that the OHIO THOF can expand their museum. Anything I have that I deem of use to them, I contact Betty Peterson and ask if the Ohio group can use it. She is a wonderful person who really takes care of the place.
Betty is to Ohio's HOF what Kenny used to be to the ATA's. If you have never been to one of the OSTA HOF receptions during the Ohio State Shoot you are missing the boat. Betty throws a nice party.
I went to the HOF last year, the items are interesting, but the condition of the items is pitiful. I'm sure it's a busy place, sarcasm!, and not a lot of time to look after the trophies and such. Someone needs to have some pride in what's in there. On a plus side, it's air conditioned. If Sparta wasn't as close to me I would never visit the place. I cannot understand why they put it in that ass of a nowhere place.
"I cannot understand why they put it in that ass of a nowhere place." That should be on a sign above the front barn door.
Trapshooter47, When the THOF museum was in Vandalia there was this gal named Tami Daniel who worked every weekday right there and was available to visitors even on weekends when requested. My understanding is the NEW barn in Sparta gathers dust most of the time, other than the Grand. 50 weeks of dust cannot be cleaned in the matter of a couple of days prior to those 2 weeks it is open. What a sad situation they have dug for themselves. You never saw any dust in the Glory days. The THOF people were a proud group back then. The best thing that happened to me was meeting some fellow named Kenny Ray Estes who introduced me into the world of Trap Shooting history. You, me, and the many others who remember the old place will always have many fond memories for sure.
There will never be an ATA HOF as "Grand" as the one in Vandalia... To me it`s not the house and place that's important but rather the grand pieces of Trapshooting`s history proudly displayed inside... To those that have never been, it`s worth the trip... Trap3
History Seeker, unfortunately for me I started shooting trap late in life. I retired from the military raised a family and in the mean time my buddies got to enjoy Vandalia, I missed out. The only "Grand" I know is the shithole! The stories of Vandalia and The Grand American are stories that someday won't be told as members get older and leave this world. I was excited walking up to the door of The Trapshooting Hall of Fame, what a let down. As if it's not bad enough that The Grand isn't Grand or Hell even Good. I was told about all the great things to see at THOF only to find tarnished broken and neglected pieces of history that looked like they belonged in the 25 cent box at a neighborhood yard sale! It is criminal in my mind to leave the items there.
Trapshooter47, Such a shame to hear that all of those old artifacts have gone by the wayside down there in Sparta. I have no answers but I will always remember that smiling face that greeted us in Vandalia as we entered the museum. Tami Daniel was one who LOVED that place just as Kenny Ray Estes and before him the late Dick Baldwin who were the curators. Sorry to get so nostalgic, but as one who loved the history of that place, I get wound up sometimes. We stopped into the museum one day on our way south and what do we find, Tami up on a step ladder replacing light bulbs. Now that was the sort of person who loved that museum. Betty Ann Foxworthy was the instrumental gal in establishing the Trapshooting Hall of Fame and she, along with the others who organized the place in the beginning back in 1969 have to be so sad now to hear about what has happened. We will always remember those wonderful leaders who fought for the cause in the good old days in Vandalia. H. Lynn Parsons, Kenny Ray Estes, Roy and Betty Ann Foxworthy That ever smiling face of the gal on the left, Tami Daniel
