Were ATA targets ever mandated to be shot over?

Were ATA targets ever required to be shot over? As they were shot on 17 degree angles?

Before some of the experts who seem to know everything about "how it was" "how it should be" and "how it will be in the future" post on here that they are laughing at someone or accusing him of drinking too much just maybe they should be aware of the facts.

Dr. Longshot had the right location, but it happened at the Ohio State Shoot in 1995. That was the year that the ATA said 3 hole targets were to be shot. I believe it was the first trap east of the bleachers that they couldn't throw a 3 hole target because the extreme angle would hit the edge of the traphouse and break. So it was set in the 2 hole.
Neal Crausbay was ATA president and Tom Acklin was Ohio ATA delegate and David Boop was ATA manager. They mandated that I believe 3 squads had to shoot that trap over. "the 3rd sub event of this program" I don't remember all of the shooters involved, but if I recall right it was Terry Jordans squad, Pat McCarthy's squad, and Steve Stedman's squad that had to shoot that trap over after the event was over.
At least one of the shooters involved had consumed some adult beverage and he still was required to shoot that sub event over. Another shooter involved broke 95 and 98 was high and he had dropped 3 targets on that trap. In the shoot over he broke 23 and ended with a 96. A 25 would have tied him for high.

The rule book stated that no one had to shoot at any illegal target, but if an illegal target is shot at the results shall be scored. This is one of the reasons that the rule book has been turned a book of suggestions. This may have happened at other locations, but at it did happen at the Ohio State Shoot at Vandalia in 1995.

Why only 3 squads were forced to shoot over still has me asking why the other squads that shot this trap in the event didn't have to shoot over, and why every squad from the rest of the shoot that had shot on this trap were not required to do a shoot over? The event in question was I believe the presidents hdcp held on that on that Friday. It was the 3rd sub event .

By the way during the 1995 shooting year I broke 100 from the 27 yard line to complete my grand slam, and it was on 3 hole targets.

Dave is right it happened at the Ohio State Shoot, I had a 98 and was none to happy that Terry Jordan was getting a chance to tie me. I told Acklin that if I was screwed out of any of my money by the ATA breaking there rules I would sue them. Terry did get up to 96 so some other poor suckers got screwed. This was one of the first times that I really saw the ATA EC break a rule of there own, Shoot an Illegal Bird and you own it, shoot after drinking because your told to and the EC looked the other way. Don't think that just today's group do what they want to no matter what the Book of Suggestions says. Brad

 

Dave, a lot of guys here probably can't understand why that trap couldn't throw a 44 degree angle without the clay hitting the sidewall of the house? Please inform them as to why that happened. Then again, that's a whole nuthur subject.

Hap it was one of the old original trap houses, the pedestal was too far back and the house was too small. I loved shooting on those small houses, you saw the angel targets right now, no delay like the big houses at the CC. Brad

 

Hap, sometimes the trap was mounted too far back on the pedestal and that would not allow wider targets. Even more fun was when the pedestal was insorrectly mounted it the center of the traphouse. Right angles came out of the trap about 6" below the right corner and lefts were wild looking!

 

I remembered those small trap houses in the early 70s and liked them also for just the reasons you mentioned Brad. Problems arose trying to stuff an oversized machine into them requiring the roofs to be raised too if memory is correct?

Thanks Andy, some of the new to the game guys now will know what the changes were and how we had to adapt to them. I don't care much for the Pat traps at all but it is what it is.
