We have a small gun club here in central Arizona. We have close to 50 members that shoot here. I have given lessons for our members to help them enjoy the trapshooting game and shoot better. They have all improved, except one. He shoots quite well considering what is new to me.

He is right handed and is left eye dominate. He has a hard time trying to close or block his left eye when going after a target. As I recall, you were right handed and left eye dominate, is that right ?? If so, can you give me any advise on what to tell him that worked for you. If any other posters would like to offer any advise I would like to hear it also.

    Many thanks ---

Great question and I'm sure Brad will give you his thoughts too! May help untold shooters having that same problem with cross-firing in addition!

    Quaildog,

I'm sure Brad will offer his thoughts when he sees this thread. Until then I will share some info that Brad once offered me. I was in the midst of a shooting slump, especially in singles. I asked Brad where looks for the target just as he is calling pull. Brad told me he looks for the target in the same area he would if he was the scorekeeper. In other words, up and away from the house, not as close as I was looking for it. Brad told me by looking that far away from his gun it really didn't matter to him that he was left eye dominate. I didn't understand what he meant but I had nothing to loose so I tried it. I broke 199 in the singles that day. And now as Paul Harvey used to say "here's the rest of the story". I happened to be shooting with Carl Chadwell that day. Carl missed a few targets on our first field and I noticed he was shooting much slower than normal. The next three traps were vintage Carl with 75 very smooth but quick ink balls. As we walked off our last trap I had to ask him what happened on the first field? Carl told me he overheard what Brad had told me and tried it on the first field. What I took away from that day is that everyone is different and what works for some may not work for others. I look forward to reading Brad's advice.

Don, I'd guess since Carl was waiting on targets, they musta been all of 10 er 12 feet outa the house huh?

    Man does he shoot quick!!

I see people with those sight blockers on the front side of the rib, or Meadow's tubed front sight that blocks the left eye from being able to see it ... I had a problem with it even as a 2 eyed shooter, right eye doninant ... I put them on all of the guns I shoot and eliminated the problem ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
