I've been told once you establish the mounting style of your own, the trigger hand should be around 1.5"~2" from your nose which I feel very comfortable with. Here's a question. Say if the LOP is 1/2" too short from your correct LOP, but you still have 1.5" distance between your nose and shooting hand, and you have perallel comb, so the drop at comb doesn't change, what's the problem shooting like this ? Anyone had experience ?
The Top of the comb must be longer, not sure if there is a standard for that or not ... WPT ... (YAC) ... Good Question ....
I have had luck with a shorter LOP when going to a higher rib .... having a somewhat equal increase in the drop at heel as the decreased LOP doesn't seem to have an ill effect on my neck .....
In my experience monkeying around some would say way too much, I have also found that increased drop at heel reduces the length needed in the length of pull.
Ok, let me ask the question in another way, how do we know the LOP is too short if our hand is not hitting our nose?
The way I shoot is a little different from a typical trapshooter, I raise my right shoulder to bring up the gun to my face and forward my head on the stock so I feel more "Into" the gun instead of straight neck and elbow up like most ATA shooters.
General theory is as long as you dont smack your nose you are fine Exception... Guys like in first photo that have "no neck" , they often will put thumb besides nose in upright positions Guys with no necks have big advantages anyway .. but some could make smart remarks
What is the sleeve length of your dress shirt, And what is the LOP of your stock, the length of the pistol grip is really different as the size of your HAND, Very Few are alike, My shirt sleeve length is 33 !/2" In, LOP is 14"in. all of my guns, it really awings NICE. A LOP too long will make you short shoot your angles ( be behind them). GB..................................DLS
I'm 5'9 155lb with 33" sleeves of dress shirt. My preferred LOP is 14.25" Three different English and Italian gun fitters agreed that 14.125" ~ 14.5" would work for me (if I have to pick up someone else's gun) depend on disciplines. Driven birds would require shorter LOP and longer for American Trap.
Where does one go to become a gun fitter? How many people out there are really and truly qualified to set up a gun that will make you shoot better?
