One of my many delights relating to the history of "shooting over the traps" is seeing pictures of old traps held in the collections of others. There were many different live-bird traps used in the sport, most being hand-made of wood until some entrepreneurs decided to patent and sell their new and improved inventions. Here is an old wooden box in my collection that does not have a patent. I thought I'd share it in hopes that others will share pictures of some of their traps rarely seen by most people. Enjoy Our History !
Here's a Jeremiah J. King pigeon trap, patented May 10, 1881. The pigeon is placed in the hinged box and when the cord it pulled the box top and sides are pulled back and collapses in a flat position. Enjoy Our History !
HB, this is a picture of mine in the front along with a Black Products trap on the left and Mini-Quail on the right. And, where it began
Trap3, Thank you for adding your old pigeon traps to this thread. Most people have never seen some of these treasurers. I hope to add a couple more myself when I get the time. HB
Here's another old trap from 1902 that came from Pennsylvania. The owner said it had been in his family for generations and was nice enough to donate one to the Trapshooting Hall of Fame. He had no idea who made it or if it was patented. The Gustave Portman, of Peoria, Illinois was awarded a patent for this trap in February 1902. Enjoy Our History ! HB
