1942 Ithaca Model 37 16 Ga. #58666 with the original box and papers. I know you should always buy the gun and not the story but here it is. In the mid 90's we purchased 13 of these guns from the McCook IL. police department. They said the shotguns were used as guards guns at the local Reynolds Aluminum plant during the war and they procured the guns from there. Some were fired by the guards, probably to familiarize themselves with them, but a few were still in their boxes. This is one of those box guns. They started life with 28" MOD barrels, as shown on the end label, and then were cut back to 20-1/16" and the brass beads reinstalled which of course made them CYL. bore guns. From a look of the muzzle I would hazard a guess the work was done in the Reynolds machine shop. You can see the results in my other pictures. The balance of the barrel retains 99.5% Blue as does all the other metal. The pictures show two light rub lines on the mag tube but that is it. The top of the receiver has the high gloss Blue which was the finish in 1942. The wood is in the same excellent condition. The wrap around checkering on the pistol grip and the checkering on the round forearm look as though they were never handled. The butt plate is perfect. The box also contained the wooden magazine plug and some factory papers that have deteriorated over these 77 years. The hang tag is still on the trigger guard. The acetate sleeve is only partially there but the hang tag is crisp. There is also a cardboard sleeve that goes around stock, receiver, and mag tube. You of course have the 3 day NON firing inspection period. Pictures can be seen at https://imgur.com/a/NRnSZ1H $875.00 Price is plus actual USPS Priority shipping to your FFL. PLEASE make sure they will accept from a NON licensee. I can mail directly to PA residents.
