Despite passing a record income tax hike in 2017, Illinois’ pension health remains the nation’s worst, according to one of the world’s leading credit rating agencies.

A new report from Moody’s Investors Service shows in fiscal year 2018, Illinois’ unfunded pension liability stood at nearly $241 billion, leaving each Illinoisan on the hook for $18,896 in pension debt.

These findings follow Illinois Policy Institute research, which has found Illinois’ pension debt has continued to balloon since 2011 after an income tax hike that year and another in 2017.

The size of Illinois’ pension debt amounts to more than 500% of state revenues, according to Moody’s, and nearly 30% of the state economy. That’s considerably higher than Kentucky’s 309% pension debt-to-revenue ratio, the nation’s second worst, according to Moody’s.

The point being the financial support it will take to keep the WSRC in at least respectable shape will not be coming out of the Illinois budget with all dept taking deep cuts in their operating budgets ... IDNR took a 5% hit and then 6 1/2 % hit in their funding from the State, so where do they go from there ..? There are in fact many states that are broke on paper but have the financial backing to keep them a float and operational on a daily basis, the State of Illinois keeps going down , down , down like the burning rings of fire (oopps Johnny Cash song playing ) .... The WSRC is a State Park, not sure if they get Federal funding or assistance from the Government but the State of Illinois is in deep shit and no place to go ... I am from Illinois and have family back there so I do try to keep up on what is happening, have not seen anything good in a long long time ... Last time I saw anything good in Illinois it was it (Illinois) in my rear view mirror as I was leaving ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
