MN has a High School Shooting competition. I attended as a vendor last year and will again this year. My question is.. as successful as their program has been.. why aren't more states adapting one like it?? The shoot last year was held over 6 days and had almost 6000 kids shoot in it. They broke it down by school size so it was a different group of kids each day so they were never over loaded or couldn't handle the size of the crowd. It's not an ATA shoot .. this is done through the schools. The organization even went to the political powers and got matching fund grants to help clubs put in more traps if they could not handle the number of kids wanting to shoot. Personally, I see this as a win win for us shooters. If just 10% of them crossed over and shoot ATA targets we would be a growing sport instead of a failing one. Trap shooting has surpassed hockey as the #1 letter sport in MN. This was by far the biggest trap shoot in the US last year!!
Mn. has done and is doing a great job. Problem for a lot of states.....Too Many Liberals spouting guns are bad period ! My son tried to put together a youth shooting team in HS and was almost viewed as a criminal. (Central, Ohio) Regards....Gerald
We had a bench rest shooting rifle club in our HS and it was in the Wash DC suburbs lol, how time changes. And also a fly fishing/tying club.
FlaLargarto It was reported earlier on the site earlier that the Cardinal Center is working on finalizing details with the same org. Cant remember the name of the group so I cant look it up. Maybe Luke or Jake from the CC will see the post.
IA had over 3,000 kids in their SCTP program last year. 113 teams with about 50% receiving some sort of school support. In our team's case, that support was merely a letter of support from the superintendent and to be recognized as a club sport for the school.
