Tom Acklin turned down numerous Very Good locations, Some he would not get out of His Car to look at, One had a 99 year lease near London Ohio, Flat Land, all traps facing north. One in Hilly Eastern Ohio with AEP money to build, one Located just west of the Vandalia location on land offered by City Of Dayton, w/ Governor Rhoads trying to keep it in the Same area, One other option was in Las Vegas near the Old Las Vegas Gun Club on County Property, One in Indiana, One in the State Of Texas.

So the narrow minded selection committee decided on Sparta, and Built under the Direction Of Mike Hampton w/o any Building Credentials, allowed roads w/o proper base, and was told by the HOF Construction Supertendant there was lack of Power Distribution to run the Power Tools required to Build the Horse Barn HOF Building.

A Director of the tournaments Talking Head Lynn Gipson, who has 2 Conflict of Interests, he has a Trapgun Business on Site, Part owner ship in Gipson/Ricketts Shot reclaiming business, and an ATA salary of Approx $135,000 + benefits paid by ATA.

The ATA President Rob Taylor formed a Corp 2012 PLL as incorporator, where land was purchased by an ATA Member in Texas supposedly with the interests of the 2012PLL Corp. arranged a sale of the Property to house the ATA Home Offices in Sparta, Ill.

Then they showed a picture of the ATA Hall of Fame building/Artist/Architect drawing of the HOF Building with an estimated cost of
$2.1 Million Dollars approved building of the HOF Building,

And what did we get? A $750,000 max Horse Barn built w/plans from an Major Lumber Company like Lowes or 84 Lumber w/drawings stamped w/engineer approval, The building was not even let out for BIDS.

Major Purchase of Auto-Matic Traps purchased w/o being let out for bids that could not meet proper Angles/Distances only the absolutely Minimum Stds.

Then comes Neil Winston who wants a few Thousand $ Dollars to do a test on adding 30 Yard Target specs at 17 degree angles, instead of going back to the approx. 44 degree, 52 yard targets, shot from the 27 yard line, using 1200fps 3 Dram Shells, that the Trapshooting Sport was built on.

The ATA Presidents, EC and BOD have been using OUR ATA Monies as a Cash Cow, taking money w/o approval of the membership for over
20 Years.

Building an ATA Trap Shooting facility in a ANTI-GUN State, Passing a BY-Law in 1955 taking the Powers of the Life Members that could have stopped all these Shenanigans.

Firing the Over Sight Committee members for doing their job

One thing you have to give the ATA credit for, is that they gave the state of Ill. a great sales pitch.

If it was any State other than Illinois, I may agree. But, looking at the past/current/future corruption and greed going on in that State, it is easy to believe the "move" was corruption and greed driven.

 

Which traps are these?? The only ones I've seen at Sparta are Pat Traps and they will throw the equivalent of a 3 hole target.
