How much difference is there in Federal 209 and 209A Primers for reloading! Why did they change the chemical make up. What year was this done!

    Thanks

The older Federal 209 was somewhere in the heat range of the Winchester 209
However the Federal 209A is considerably hotter as well it's the hottest Primer you can buy.
In no way should the Fed 209A be substituted for the Fed 209

I found that out when shooting bunker a few weeks ago. Even the 1oz loads kicked pretty well. I had some of the Fed 209A & decided to use them up. I will sell them & stick with the Fiochi that I have been using for 20 years. Softer & absolutely no miss fires.
