Invited my Pastor over to bag a deer on my property late in the gun season. He needed some grain fed venison for his annual chilly cook-off. Since I'm no longer able, as of yet to handle the rigors of the hunt. He gladly accepted my humble offer...just as long as I get half lol. Hey, I'm supplying the deer stand, hanging of venison for 6 days, all butchering equipment, and expert advice on how to properly cut this thing up, refrigeration including vacuum packing. After discarding the fresh gut pile, I thought that a Trail cam my be interesting to see what critters came by for a succulent treat. Stay tuned for developing events.
Here's a young buck at gut pile...Must be some kind of viewing ceremony for the recently departed. Date and time need to be reset on camera.
There is no need to hang a deer for 6 days. It is done to beef so the enzymes tenderize the meat. Venison doesn't have marbleized meat there is no fat in the meat to breakdown and help tenderize it.
If somebody ever comes up to you and says, "Hello, my friend, it's good to see you," you tell them that "It's better to be seen than viewed."
Obviously this is not the ''gut pile'' thread. This is the first pic I ever took of a Pileated woodpecker. Image quality is bad due to using trail cam on feeder. I'll try for some better pics. These birds are as large as a crow. Looks like the lead singer in the band KISS with that huge tongue.
