I once knew this but it has slipped my memory. Can someone tell me how much a poi increases at forty yards when adding a 1/16th to the height of your comb? It sure is Hell to get old!...Thanks
To calculate it based on your gun, do the following: Measure the distance from the end of your barrel to the point your cheek makes contact with the stock. Divide this into 40 yards and multiply by .0625". Example: if the measurement was 40" divide that into 1440"(40yds converted to inches) X .0625". 1440/40=36 X .0625"= 2.25"
Thanks lazerwizard so according to your formula a shorter barrel gun will provide a higher poi increase with the same spacer increase?
OK figure this one for me, 34"Bbl, with rib of 30"inches long tapered from 1 -1/16th" Inches, Tapered down to 1/16Th, Rib ends right at the muzzle, that's 1"inch of taper over 30"inches, I need your figures on increase of POI? Dr.longshot
The increase would be from one poi to another with a 1/16 inch comb height increase. Rib taper wouldn't matter because you had the same taper before you added the 1/16th inch spacer.
Well If you are saying you raised the rib 1 inch at the back the increase would be close to 36inches But you would be better off putting that on paper then relying on math. A change that extreme will change some of the other aspects of how that gun fits you and shoots for you
I will put this simpler, how high will a rib a 30"inch rib 1-1/16th high sloped down to 1/16th inch at muzzle shoot at 35 yards. I am only speaking of increase in actual rib dimensions at 35 yards, forget original POI, you don't need to know how high it shoots now, just the increase of POI. My est is 34inches hi. Dr.longshot
Absolutely. I didn't factor in the rotational speed of the Earths orbit though. He'll need to offset the comb to compensate for that.
Reminds me of a rib a friend had installed. When he patterned it he shot over the the board. He figured that was about high enough. He broke a lot of 100's with that setup. But they we only 2 hole targets.
Believe it or not, in the past, they do not shoot as high as you would think, Burlie Wilson owns a BT-99 Stainless I had moneymaker build a rib for, ask him how high it shoots, he will not sell it back to me. Moneymake has made several for me, all were fixed ribs, ask Mike who works there about my ribs they made. Dr.longshot
