ATA admits failures lowers standards for All American Points

The ATA now can see the writing on the wall. The policies of the EC and BOD have decimated the org to the point that All American Points will now be issued to shoots with a mere 450 shooters. That is not per event!

This is the equivalent of the hundred yard dash being shortened to 75 yards or the basketball rim lowered to seven feet.

Are they following the lead of Mississippi that lobbied for easier standards to get yardage? Are they following the lead of Neil's push for easier targets? Is this a continued pussification of trapshooting. Maybe the fear not having enough shooters to be awarded points at Sparta shoots is sobering.

Ex ATA President Wagner was quoted as implying that most that compete in trapshooting do so to collect the ATA points. How is that working so far?

 

Well if you think so how about laying out a case to support your argument or are you just bitching and moaning.

 

Looks like he laid it out quite well. Bitch? Naughty word.

 

All this does is lower the achievement of winning a larger shoot. You will have people on the all Amer. team that have never won a major event. It will demean the honor of being on the team. Why not just draw a name from a hat, it would be more fair than lowering the criteria of having to win a major event. Where is Jimmy Robinson when you need him? Most of todays shooters will wonder who he was. Roger C.

oleolliedawg, You remember him because you are older than dirt. When Jimmy did the picking he judged on, demeanor, ability, personnel performance . Not on if you had enough money to chase the points all over the country. Many points are awarded when there are only a couple of people in the catagory. Lowering the count to 450 shooters is a joke, our chain shoots in AZ. will all be AA point shoots. We are going the route that the Skeet shooters traveled 15 yrs. ago. That did not turn out so well did it? Roger C.

 

Heck, I can even remember when he picked the late Charlie Sheckler for his AA teams. 6'6" Charlie didn't have to shoot 10,000 targets a year, just beat the best into the ground with his ability and his mean looking scowl!

 

Ollie I remember Charlie quite well. I always enjoyed trading stories with Charlie and sometime when you see me I'll relate a story to you from Charlie that I can't print here. Also I will always remember being invited into Jimmies little white press building to be interviewed back in the late fifties. That was just like being invited to enter the promised land. The press building was located under and just to the east of the big board that showed the on deck squads and the blackboards that the events leaders were posted on. Those are just a couple of the memories of the Vandalia Grand that I will always have and there are many more even a few from the old beer stand. Thanks for bring up Charlie's name and he was quite a good shot and competitor.

He was just as tough in a game of 8-ball. He sure could tower over a pool table and hated to lose. We went at it many a day and the 'dawg wasn't afraid to take some of his money. Of course, his nickname "Charlie Chip" was often well deserved. No matter, that sucker could shoot!
