I have a custom built .35 Whelen built by my Dad in the early 1960’s on a nice Mauser 98 Action and a 22 inch Hobaugh barrel (Montana barrel maker). He built it for carrying on horseback with a scabbard. I removed the original iron sights and mounted a Picatinny Rail on the action and then mounted a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x50 scope with their 1,000 yard reticle by Nightforce tied to the ballistics of the .35 Whelen cartridge on Nightforce Ultralight Titanium Rings. The gun probably doesn’t have over 50 rounds thru it over the years. My Dad used it sparingly and I’ve used it on only 5 elk hunts since I mounted the scope. With 225 grain Barnes TSX bullets, this gun is a real elk killer. Each of my last 5 elk shot with this gun were one shot kills....and 3 dropped in their tracks. Scope is in perfect condition with sunshade. Walnut stock has only a couple of surface safe marks and bluing is very nice. Action still has the German Swastika visible in bluing. If anyone is really interested, I’ll get some pics and send via PM. $2750 plus shipping in lower 48 to your FFL. FFL must accept shipping from a non-FFL shipper.
In addition to the pictures promised above, I have a few changes/additions to the first posting where I had some info wrong from my memory. First, the NightForce Scope is a NXS 3.5-15x50 scope with the 1,000 yard reticle for .35 Whelen ballistics. The barrel is a 19 inch Hobaugh barrel. The SN# 7789 is also on the floor plate and magazine cover that you can see in the pictures. I also have 36 rds of Nosler Trophy Grade 225 grain Accubond; 40 rds of 200 grain Barnes TSX; 40 rds of 180 grain Barnes TSX and 20 rds of 200 grain Remington Core-Lokt that ships with the rifle.
Holy Cow....just had an inquiry on this .35 Whelen and saw that I have a typo on the price....my selling price is $1750 shipped. Sorry for the confusion. Hope someone who looked earlier will look again.
Don't know anything about this kind of rifle other than the infamous Mauser action but this caliber is stellar.
