Was discharged from the hospital yesterday. Monday evening went to the refrigerator to get a glass of water. Woke up on the floor with two lacerations in my head. Was totally dehydrated due to two factors: 1) lactose intolerance 2) taking blood pressure med which should have been changed , due to a 25 lb weight loss If you take blood pressure meds--make sure to check your blood pressure on a daily basis
I'm in Cardiac Rehab now, had a quad bypass - two months ago. Yesterday we had a class about hypertension BP. I've been on BP meds for 15 years - never no problem until the last few weeks. I almost passed out in a department store the other day after I bent down and was looking at a pair of shoes on the bottom shelf. When I stood up I - I dam near blacked out. I had to go to my knees and kneel there for a few minutes until I got my head straight. Told em at Rehab - the nurse said I was probably dehydrated too. She said every morning when you take your meds drink a min of 8oz of water with them. Water - no coffee, no Diet Cokes like I drink - water. My doc has instructed me to check my BP before I take my BP meds and if top number is less than 120 - skip that dose, then recheck before taking the evening dose. I've never had a problem with low BP before till now - I guess bypasses have worked. LOL I've gone from taking 2 - 50mg pills a day, to 2 -25mg a day, to 2 -1/2 25mg pills a day and even then I skip some of those. But the main thing I got out of class the other day was be sure to drink plenty of water. Coffee, soda, beer does not count - just water!
