A friend has a young son who is just starting to hunt deer. The father asked me about the 300 Blackout. What is known about it? Thanks.
The 300 blackout is a 30 cal on a 223 case, was made for a AR platform. If it were my son would start with a 243 cal with 100 gr bullets in a bolt action for his first Deer rifle my opinion . Low recoil and you can buy ammo all most any place. Sgoose
Yes he is using a 243 at this time but the father asked me about it. I also added that what ever cal he got it should be a cal that can be found in any country store. 30-06, 30-30, 270, 308 are all found in any country store. 300 Blackout I doubt he will. Thanks for your help.
I’ve been looking to build a high end AR for awhile and the general consensus is that the only reason to get a .300 Blackout is to shoot subsonic rounds through a suppressor for maximum noise reduction. There are many, many calibers better for deer than this. Unless you’re doing it in the dark and want to be quiet....which presents other issues I am sure.
