Questions for my Empire Friends in the know. Are we paying the ATA for the word “Grand” next year? I hear we might just add $10k to the pot. Next question...are there going to be more grounds improvements? The place looked better this year. (finally)
As a FORMER NYer I am still interested in what goes on up there. Please keep us posted. McHugh gave a bundle to begin the EMPIRE Grand years ago, snow and all. Now I can't imagine spending any extra $$$ while this pandemic is still a possibility for 2021. Did they get some more gravel in the muddy parking areas ?
As much as I love shooting in NY there is no need for two satellite grands there. They do not draw the crowds a satellite grand should. Maybe Pa will step up and try and get one some day
There are too many satellite Grands already. No state should have two. They were not to interfere with the annual Grand American or State Shoots. Satellites were to take the Grand American experience to places where others could attend a huge shoot like the Grand. Here's some history. After several years of discussion, the idea for a Satellite Grands was established in 1976. In January of 1977 the first Satellite Grand was held in Phoenix, Ariz. In October of 1979 the first Midwestern Grand was held on the Missouri homegrounds in Linn Creek. In February, 1981 the first Southern Grand was held in Odessa, Fla. at the Silver Dollar Trap Club. Executive Committee members were permitted to receive funds for expenses to attend. I believe it was $500. However, if more than one E.C. member attended, the $500 was divided among them. Actually the idea was not new as there had been the so-called "Baby Grand" tournaments for years, the first in1928. And, if you really want to go back in history, the Interstate Association created a Grand American type tournament in the East, West, North and South way back in 1906. I'd post the article but I could upload it but not place on the page visually.. HB
The start of the Satellite Grands was pretty much also the start of “the good ol boy’s club” in the ATA. Ron Burdick
Ron, The satelite grands were the start of the downward trend of the smaller clubs. Then they instituted the AA points and attendance fell even more at the small home town clubs. The small clubs are the incubators for the ATA registered shooters. The ATA ignored their important link in the chain of recrutment for the registered shooting. All they seem to look at is how much they can charge for letting a satelite being held, and how many of them can get a free ride to the event. Self servers never look after the well being of the association only their own wants. Roger C.
Grand seems to be the "Magic" word that gives the EC, ED, and many of the BOD a free ride, to from and during such event ... Those elected to represent the "Membership" must attend in their minds as it is part of their job ( it isn't ) but that is how they get their all expenses paid vacations to the shoots, and be catered to by the clubs as they avoid those they are elected to represent by having a separate areas (room) just for them to hide in and absorb the free booze, and food they expect the clubs to provide for them ... If not for the clubs and membership they would serve no other purpose than that of a Piss Ant (does Nothing by the way ) but eat, and drink because someone else is paying for it ... Parasite is actually a better word for Piss Ant , but in trying to be nice we can use the term "Piss Ant" ... The Cash Cow is alive and well for the Piss Ants to feed off of as soon as the Virus is under control ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
