Finally took delivery of a lightly used 1964 final production run Winchester Model 12 Trap. Took it to the range to try and it immediately brought back memories of how well it points and crushes birds. (Luckily it fit me right out of the "box".)
I started out with a 12 in the late '80s; went to my first State shoot in 2002 and won my singles class with it the first day.
Long story short, my shooting buddy said its time to buy a real trap gun. Sold the 12 and have bought and sold several brands over the years (I think I caught a trap shooting virus).
It's just nice to have the Model 12 again for singles and handicap, without spending a lot of money for "real" shotguns.

    Dave,
How well I know the feeling you are talking about ... I have shot many impostures going back to my Model 12 and probably stay with it one more time, this time for good I hope ... I am fortunate enough to have the Model 12's I shot over the years so going back is going to be easy ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

The one you shoot the best ... I have engraved, pigeon, and trap Model 12's all pre 64, I have always said there is no such thing as a bad Model 12 just some better than others ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

A few years ago, a friend and I walked out to the line for a round of doubles at the monthly shoot. We were both shooting Model 12's and by the time we were through we had quite an audience. Our scores were as good/bad as normal, that wasn't the draw. Most of the others had never seen pump guns used for doubles. It was a good time, hard to realize most the current shooters have never tried this "old fashioned" way..... Andy

    WPT,

I used to have a mess of 'em, too. I'm down to my last one, a 20 ga. round post skeet gun. About 13 years ago, we set up a wobble trap. I shot wobble with a 20 ga. solid rib skeet gun that I'd had for about 40 years. Shooting wobble with that gun gave me a whole new respect for one armed paper hangers.

I just bought a new in the box Y model that I am going to break out this weekend. I am hoping to find a pre 64 model in the near future as that is what I started with way back in the day.

I will when I get it back from my gunsmith. He's fitting one trigger that was a bit tight. I can't wait to show it off. I traded it with an old timer for a .410 O/U. He bought it new in 1964, shot it two years and quit trapshooting to become a skeeter.

    Oleolliedawg,
Love to see the pictures and get the information where you got the grip for a Model 12 for a PFS ... I can see me possibly having to have one of those, be a nice add to my Model 12 collection ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
