Check out this link for the official word on the grand WWW2.ILLINOIS.GOV/NEWS/RELEASE. Fresh off the press.
Linn Creek was their back up plan. Shot there many times, great club. I believe they have 60 traps, second in size only to the WSRC. Excellent food choices nearby and this year there should be lots of hotel rooms and camping nearby. If they added about 20 traps for future years the Grand could just stay there permanently.
You can read the statement on the other thread about the 2020 'grand'. I knew I couldn't post a link so I copied and pasted it.
Talking wire say medicine man Passer of Pipe sorry to have to move Pow-Wow to Land of Big Canoe but big chiefs do best they could. Me thinks Big Chiefs smoking something funny in pipe if that BEST they could do.
I’m not advocating for Linn Creek over Sparta, just pointing out that once the contract is broken BOTH sides are likely to examine if they are in a good deal and want to continue. I heard that Illinois just signed a budget that is in the red by 6 billion dollars. If the State is loosing money on the WSRC it is likely to be on future chopping blocks. This year will give both sides the ability to step back and really decide if they want to continue. Having another venue with the ability to host the Grand gives the ATA options should Illinois decide they no longer want to continue operating the WSRC.
Once things are back to "normal"( maybe next year) all the state of ILLnews has to do is tell the ata that if they want to continue to have the 'grand' at that place is PAY FOR EVERTHING that has to do with that August shoot an kick in a little something to the state. A few million should cover the kickback part. History has shown that the ata has people that know how to make deals. Maybe something along the lines of a Pull2021LLC With all the money the ata has in the bank that should be an easy fix. That way the number of entries for Event 24 might even get all the way up to 2,000.
Will the Trapshooting Hall of Fame take Museum items out to the new venue so shooters can enjoy them ? Or will they be left in the horse barn for another year ? OMG, maybe, just maybe Bradford will come up with another plan to get money for another NON OWNED building to display them in where ever the Grand lands. Years ago Mr. Fishburn offers free of charge 5 acres to the THOF, along with financial and construction help. BUTTT NO, They (Bradford) turns that deal down and DONATES a way over priced building to the State of Illinois. I love history of the sport, but anything I can donate now goes to the OHIO THOF museum where shooters can enjoy seeing history of the sport on a consistent level, not for only 3 weeks a year (at best).
If you ever shot at Linn Creek you know that there is a large difference between banks there. Can hear the whining all ready. Roger C.
Would this be a prelude to the Trapshooting Hall of Fame loosing the Lease they have with the State of Illinois on the building WE all paid for? Somehow I would be looking at removing the items out of that place, or at least have a backup plan in place IF the State tells them they have a certain amount of time to vacate OR loose the contents to them. I am sincerely concerned folks, not just idle chatter. I DO NOT trust that state Lease at all. Something else that comes to mind is will all those Camping spots that were rented out see a return of the money to whomever already paid the ATA for them ? Keep your eyes and ears open, somehow I don't see this happening, but I hope the ATA does the honorable thing and give refunds.
lord maker, Don't know about that but I'm sure they'll have a heap more than Sparta. On a side note how smart does the SCTP look now? Michigan cancelled the high school kids shoots too. The SCTP was burned by Illinois a few years back, just once though. I just hope we're not in a shooting civil war yet by SCTP time. The Democrats have obviously lost their minds, St. Louis and KC are the two cities closest to Lake of the Ozarks so who knows what will be going on in August
Probably a graph BURIED somewhere but I was thinking, Has a state championship handicap event, any state, ever had more entries than the GAH event?
flyersarebest, Go back through Ohio And PA. attendance. It would have to be one of them if it was ever done. Do you think Sparta will ever open up again? Maybe we need a poll on the subject. Or should we just ask sparta sid? Roger C.
Have you shot their yet? I tried to the first weekend they were open. I was their at 10 am on a Sunday and no one was around and everything was locked up.
What is going to happen to the rents that the vendors pay on their buildings? This may be the end of the sparta shooting center. Who is going to be responsible for the advance payments made if the place never reopens? It may turn into a cluster hump. Roger C.
I just got back from shooting a couple of rounds of trap. You need to call ahead and make a appointment. The grounds were in good shape the restrooms were open and clean. I got to meet,Brad H. Brad is a good guy and it felt good to shoot some trap again.
Not only the vendors, what about the people (campers/shooters) who paid years in advance for a camping spot ..? The ATA took over the Camping so it would revert back to them as would the refunding of Vendors/Campers money's ... The ATA claimed they were sold out in advance for up coming shoots and events at the WSRC so that can mean big money, because they were not giving them away, with the exception of the 25 spots they have reserved for Sucks ups, ass kissers, and sponsors ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
Here is my 2 cents worth on shooting at Linn Creek. When the wind blows out there, and it is quite often, the scores plummet.
I shot at Linn Creek a few times in the past over the years, good people, nice club, great food, and many places to stay ... I never shot well there because there always seemed to be some sort of weather or adverse conditions to deal with, not the clubs fault ... With the exception of not shooting well it was a good time and lot of fun ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
Roger, PA and OH State Shoots are bigger than ALL satellite grands. Most by a wide margin. The Cardinal Classic is close, but it’s not a satellite grand. Don
Well, I think it will still make it to Linn Creek with the three of us. It's only three and a half hours. Good thing the other guy is driving his Green tractor. I don't think we have to worry about him. He won't go anyway, too far from his porch and besides, he didn't even shoot one target last year.
I asked and no body answered. I'll ask again can someone, Jim or somebody tell the shooters what the status of the HOF in Ill. is. It was supposed to be on a plot of land owned by the HOF, then it came out that it would be owned by the state of Ill. Something was also in the lease about if the shoot wasn't held at the WSRC the contents had to be removed within 90 days or the contents became property of the state. I don't understand the legal terminology, but I am concerned and this should be explained to all the ATA members. Dealing with the Ill. politician's scares me. Dave Berlet
The WSRC is open to the public on a limited basis. You must call and reserve your date and time. Closed certain days of the week. Sporting Clays is limited to no more than 10 shooters on the course at one time (makes no sense to me?) No events are allowed at this time. At this time us loyal subjects of Lord Pritzker are told we move up to his Phaze 4 if we are all good little boys and girls. 4 means inside dining is allowed and a few other things, not much though. BTW, for those that have been to the complex, J & J guns is going out of business. Jim had been very ill and I heard yesterday that he passed away. Also was told one of his sons recently died in an auto accident, sad to hear this.
I was reading on the ATA home page/web site and got the idea from a few things that were being said the ATA feels that once this Corona Virus runs its course it will be back to business as usual in Sparta ... I do not know if the State or the ATA will want to back track after the shoot gets moved to another facility due to the closures ... The ATA seems like they have intentions of rebating fees that have been paid by Campers and Vendors with the checks being mailed out by or on July 10th, 2020 (per the ATA site) ... The ATA's site seems to imply this is a temporary move in a few of the posted notices, got to wonder if the folks at Linn Creek know that ..? The membership should be told what deal was made and what the particulars are unless they are hiding something again ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
Bradford is the one that should be answerable as to the status of the H.O.F. The building and the contents are his responsibility, he led the group that over seen the fiasco. He is the one that gave it away. I also wonder if the ATA members are still liable for the rest of the payments on the building? If the ATA looses the contents of that building do to their and Bradford's stupid handling of the agreement with the state of ill. it will be the death knell of the organization. If they try to say the H.O.F. is a separate organization from the ATA that will not fly. Roger C.
The last time I shot there I had a good time. Won a Browning XT. My Grandson now shoots it and shoots it well.
