The Cardinal Center has notified all of their trap employees that the Karen’s Cup is cancelled and the Buckeye Shoot is postponed. No information about the Ohio State Shoot yet.....more info in the near future. Bummer!!
Sad to hear this but completely understandable given the current orders coming out of the Governor’s office. All campgrounds are still closed, no gatherings of more than 10 people, face masks required for employees and the list goes on and on. My daughter has been a scorekeeper at the Cardinal for several years. Not sure if I want her in close proximity to shooters from all over the country just yet. Lots of shooters, myself included, are at a higher risk for extreme complications if we get this virus. Better to play it safe and live to shoot another day. Just sucks!
I really thought the Buckey would be a go. Still not really sure how i feel about all of this.Take out the numbers from N.Y. and N.J. and it was like a light FLU season.
Don do you remember when I told you my info came from the boss. I knew about the shoots being cancelled at least 10 days ago when I called and told you about it and Merlo is right about his other threads info too.
Brad, Early this week I had a long conversation with one of the major vendors from the Cardinal. They had decided they wouldn’t be setting up at either the Karen’s Cup or the Buckeye even if the shoots were held as scheduled. Their product orders have to placed three weeks in advance and drop shipped to the site or local storage. Just too big of a risk to sit on that much inventory not knowing if any shoots would be allowed. I have always felt the vendors are extremely important in the overall plans of the major shoots. If information about cancellations is available as early as you were told then I hope that information is also being communicated to the vendors. In this case I know it wasn’t. That leaves the vendors to make difficult decisions that could impact their ability to attend future events.
My question is if the Karens Cup has been canceled and the Buckeye postponed why hasn't someone in an official position posted this information. I don't doubt Bruce Gilliam's information, but if this has truly come about it should be posted by the OSTA president and the Cardinal Center management so folks planning to attend these shoots could without doubts alter their plans regarding these events. Should folks cancel motel rooms, golf carts plus any other plans that shooters need to take care of to attend a several day shoot. Lack of information gets quite upsetting! Dave Berlet
Dave, I think Bubba or the Cardinal posted new dates for the Buckeye today. However, I was told the dates posted for the Buckeye are September 23-27. I would watch for those to change to September 16-20. Just a hunch.
September is too late for the Buckeye you won't have the 400 SCTP shooters that pumped up the numbers for starters, and big shoots don't happen that late in the year anymore. Just look at the Missouri Fall Handicap shoot for example. Point chasers won't come either and as Don pointed out I don't think the vendors will show up. I'd say just cancel it for the year and move on to 2021. But then again no one asked me, what would I know about trap shooting.
If the Grand isn’t going to be held the week before the Cardinal Classic perhaps the Buckeye could be held on those dates in August?
Don, if Illinois doesn't open up for the Grand to be held in August are you sure that the restrictions in Ohio will permit the Cardinal shoot to be held in August? With the will of the Pelosi Dem's, the far left loons, and the Lame stream media wanting to keep everything shut down as long as possible simply to try to do harm to President Trump I'm wondering if we will be permitted to do any organized shooting this summer. Going back to when DeWine was a senator he proved that he was not a good friend of the shooters and gun owners. I surely hope that I'm wrong, but I'm very worried about our shooting this summer. We are all going to die, its just a matter of what we are going to die from ... Think about it ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
I would suggest you either send an email (preferred) or leave a message on the camp grounds phone message system if you want to get your camping reservations changed. I am sure the campgrounds office is overwhelmed. They will get a lot more done if you work with them. Be safe so we can get back to shooting.
I spoke with the camp office at the cardinal this morning. As you can expect the volume of work needing to get the camping all switched around and cancelled is huge. They told me IT IS VERY HELPFUL if you will send them an email versus making a phone call. So, please consider to do so. Give them your name, lot number and a phone number in case they need to contact you. As they told me, they can work from any place remotely with the email etc versus a phone message.
