Actually I was told that there is essentially no difference. They changed the bolt system to attach the grip when they started making grips for more guns. Also the one that I have for sale now is the latest version. It's the one in the picture with the fancy cheek piece.
New style can be converted to either right- or left-handed; it has a thinner top tube with two holes at the top to shift the top tube either to the left or the right. The newest ones also come with a brace that clamps on the top and bottom tubes (can be purchased separately from PFS as an accessory). The older style has a thicker top tube but comes in either a right-handed version or a left-handed version and *cannot* be converted to the other. The older one has a single thicker diameter screw-in weight bar in the center of the stock. The newer one has two screw holes for a thinner diameter screw-in weight bar...it's swapped from one side to the other depending on whether the stock is in lefty or righty configuration. Or, if you have an ultimate comb on it, it's possible to buy an extra weight and screw two weight bars in. They both bolt the same way to grips; both old and new styles can all bolt any PFS grip made. Some PFS grips have the section that the stock bolts to (that is bolted thru the grip to the frame) embedded in the grip...I think the newer grips have the piece the stock bolts to as a removable piece. Regardless, they'll all work with older and newer PFS stocks. The older and newer ones both work well. The only way you could go wrong is if you're a lefty buying an older right-handed one thinking you could convert it to left-handed with a cheek piece and a lefty grip.
I'm not trying to be confusing....this only works when using the Ultimate Fit Comb set up. I'm right handed, I used a left handed old style PFS by putting a offset plate between the Block and the bracket. I made one up out of 3/16" aluminum, And only needed some longer screws. A spacer plate, with the correct holes necessary comes with the UFC when new. If you have one nothing needs to be fabricated. For left handers, going the opposite should work.
