It is going to be hot in the Illinois area. High 80's and into the 90's. Be safe and take lots of water. Water buckets at the line may have bacteria so take your own to shoots. jmho Be very careful. Shooting in 90+ heat and humidity can kill.
According to a health guide heat exhaustion or heat stroke can ruin your shooting week. Because of the toll heat exhaustion takes on the body’s delicate cooling systems, it can take between 24 and 48 hours for a victim to recover from the stress. Depending on the severity of the heat exhaustion, it may take longer to recover—especially if the case requires hospitalization to replace lost body fluids.
Thank you for your good advises, its critical for some people, and that's exactly the reason I've never been to the Grand. I paid dearly to live in the beach cities of L.A., if I want to go somewhere hot and humid, it'll have to be extremely casual clothing and nothing other than water sports.
If it isn't hot when you leave the motel it will be hot shortly after. Should say take plenty of ice. Low 90's now maybe higher tomorrow. Targets break better in the heat. Smoke'em
Had a buddy out there that said it was so hot ''that he saw a rabbit dog chasing a rabbit and they both were walking''.
Low to mid 80's at Marengo next week according to AccuWeather. But.... Doesn't matter since the Grand is in Illinois!
THANK YOU! Truer words have NEVER been posted ANYWHERE on the internet. I don't know if you were even around when they took the survey. When thousands of shooters were asked if they had any regrets about not shooting the GAH after they moved it, that was their answer. You're telling me that after all those years of shooting the GAH you're not going? You were the biggest supporter of the ata I ever talked to. You lived for that week. God, we all used to get tired of hearing you go on and on about how you couldn't wait until the Grand. The Grand was this and the Grand was that. Now you don't go anymore? Doesn't it matter to you that you aren't going to shoot it anymore? "Doesn't matter since the grand is in Illinois." I won't be going. Thanks again 101 for posting what the big shots and Winston already knew when they decided to move it to that place. People wouldn't go
I was but wasn't shooting ATA, only local meat shoots put on by VFW Post and American Legion Post and KC Halls. Didn't get involved with ATA until my son started shooting for a local youth team participating in AIM and SCTP in 2007. I knew of The Grand and Vandalia but by then it had already moved to Sparta. We actually stopped at the ATA office in Vandalia and got a personal tour of the HOF before it all moved to Sparta when on vacation to Ocean City one summer. I think it was '08 or '09, not sure. It was before my time with involvement and in the past. Knowing what I know now, i wish I had gotten involved sooner so I could have experienced the Grand when it was still in Vandalia. Maybe I'd have a different perspective, but I didn't, so i don't. I and many, many others only know the Grand as it is now.
Freeze your bottled water, as Ice melts water is cold, been there done that. GB.........................DLS
Yes indeed, Tami kept the place open all year long so folks could stop and enjoy the place. I understand the THOF is only open a few weeks during the year now at best. Can anyone verify that?
So why didn't they leave it in Ohio? Was there free land offered up with free trap houses, maintenance, upkeep etc..? Did someone in Ohio offer up the land? 3.5 miles for trap fields and thousands of acres additional?
Hi NIP....You don't read here much. That is ok. I can help. One of the recent threads. Neil Winston did not need a graph, the answers are there. www.americantrapshooter.com/index.php?threads/neil-winston-didnt-need-a-graph-lose-everyday-shooters.5635/#post-49291 According to the documents produced by N1H1 and the airport authority, they did not have to leave. The land was owned by the ATA. There was land available to the east and west if needed. That is the funny part of your post. Sparta only needs a fraction of the land....less and less each year. Anyway read up. Use that link. We don't have much to do here until the dummies post or ask questions.
