A little about Katie and her passion for jerky........
Katie has been a jerky lover her entire life. She would purposely buy the hot, spicy flavors so she wouldn't have to share with anyone. She would try to eat some and save some for later but that never worked.

While she was in college in Lima, OH, she tried her hand at making her own jerky because the kind she was buying wasn't good enough. As it turned out, Katie was pretty good at it and others quickly realized she had jerky making skill. People were putting their money where there mouth was and buying her delicious, unique, Original beef jerky. She started selling at fundraisers. People would call her at her real job to place orders.

Katie was selling more and more jerky. She needed a bigger kitchen than the one she was using, she rented a kitchen from a local pizza shop. The bigger kitchen allowed her business to grow and distribute to local bars and mom & pop stores around town. It was great, people were enjoying her creation as much as Katie was, even the USDA. Oops. Katie didn’t know all the rules and regulations, which isn’t an excuse, but after all, I was just a college entrepreneur! Well, it turns out making beef jerky in an unofficial, non-beef- jerky-certified- by-the- USDA-kitchen after hours is a big no no. The USDA stopped my operations. Katie received some hefty fines and a big
enough scare to put the project to rest, for the time being.

With no money left and a good amount of ambition, Katie embarked on her next adventure. She moved to Columbus so she could start taking engineering classes again at The Ohio State University. Katie didn’t know it yet, but I was falling in love with manufacturing!

A successful career in engineering was not enough to kill my dream. Katie wanted to make the best beef jerky on the planet and now she had better tools to make it happen! The passion was so great that in 2014 Katie founded Katie’s Premium Jerky & Snacks. She set-up her office and production facility in Hilliard, OH, a suburb of Columbus and in just a few short months she started winning several product awards.
