Congratulations to our new Grand American champion David W. Elder. 100 straight form the 22 yd. line. All this fine shooting from a shooter having shot only 1100 handicap targets this year from short yardage with a whopping 88.45 average. Taking down all those under-handicapped professional shooters makes it an even greater accomplishment. I sure hope he played the ticket. Oh, I forgot to mention-he's from Standford KENTUCKY!
The second I saw the state I thought Oh Boy, this is going to be good. At least he was 4 yards farther back than the "target manager" that won from the 18
Looks like the only 99 is from a "21 yard Sub Jr" that lives in Smithsgrove, KY ..... Go short yardage KY .....
I don't know Elder, but the sub jr winner and his Dad shoot with me weekly. Eli achieved his 99 with concentration and amazing family support. There's no chance of it being anything more than a fantastic win for a fantastic young man.
Neither of them played all the money like the 18 yarder a few years ago. The one that shot 100 did play the lewis and a couple of other options.
Do they still consider 22 yards long yardage in Kentucky and the 27 way out yonder ..? Congratulations to any and all of the Winners ... That Kid from South Dakota (Barthelow ???) cleaned house, and I'm betting he played all of the Money ... Good on him ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
Wpt, Yep, Matt had a very good Grand. He won HOA on the 2600 and I believe he picked up a win or two during preliminary week. But, the Canadian kid, Pat Lamont, is the one who really cleaned up and I know he played all the money. For Grand week he won both the class & chmp doubles, had the lone 100 in Tuesdays hdcp, was AAA class winner (200) in the CTC, tied for third high score (97, top two didn't play any purse options) in the GAH and won both the HAA & HOA. Not bad shooting. Let me echo Wpt in giving congratulations to any and all winners.
When it is your day it is just your day. I once shot with a kid and it was his FIRST registered trap shoot (he had shot some league), and he ran 100 from the 20 yard line. Needless to say it is still his only 100 in the handicap. By the way I am not from Kentucky but have shot with a lot of them. There are some very very good shooters from Kentucky that shoot from the 27 yard line.
frostyman, They must cross over into Ohio to practice. I was told they do not have a field in Kentucky that is poured longer than the 24 yd. line. Roger C.
Kentucky has guys like Keith Ditto that for the last 10 years has had a 99.5 average in singles a 95+ average in handicap and a 97 average in doubles. Very few people on a perfect day can out shoot his average.
frostyman, I have shot with Keith, and he is one fine gentleman. Kentucky should be proud of him. Roger C.
Not to worry. The GAH Handicap winner is completely legit. Our future ATA president, Terry Dean, claims to have rooted out all the sandbaggers from his home state. We owe it all to Terry to completely believe honesty and target management is gone forever from Kentucky.
