ATA Needs to Define Rule On Marijuana Smoking & Shooting

With Marijuana becoming Legal ATA and Gun Clubs should Address it's use on Gun Club Grounds, and Major events, STATE SHOOTS and local Club Shoots, and LOOK at THEIR Insurance Policies for Clarification and Coverages, and get that coverage in WRITING so it can be Posted.

I think it is already addressed though not directly in the rule book, Marijuana is a mind altering substance, a drug if you will ... There is a section in the rules that pertains to drugs, alcohol etc, so based on that it has been addressed though maybe not mentioned ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

 

Pot is not legal under federal law and is enough to prevent purchase of a firearm

I have no idea why anyone would be against gun ownership. Now I understand why folks like Bloomberg don't like guns as the rich have always wanted to keep the common folk disarmed. Makes controlling them easier.

So, we can assume based on that statement, that none of the criminals that have guns use or sell drugs being as many (most ) of them have guns ..? Its comforting to know if confronted by some Hop head he or she won't be on drugs being as he or she has a gun ... The one my nephew shot didn't know he was not supposed to have a gun when he almost got a shot off right near my nephews face ... He also took 6 bullets , and I took my nephew to the range for some target practice ... 6 rounds, no kill , that not right ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

 

You know I get attacked on the other site because I participate here on this site and on this site I get attacked too. I refuse to drink the requisite "koolaide" that each site wants me to drink. It seems as if one keeps an open mind, does not pre judge the people on a particular site you get attacked constantly. It's like you have to choose one site or the other. Sorry I'm not going to do that and if you don't like it then that is your problem and not mine. So what is with the attacks and acting like a fool.

I gave up kool aid many years ago , same thing I did with people who can be dictated to by administrator for making a True and Factual statement on another site you are referencing ... Anyone who answers part 11 section e on a 4473 with a "yes" already has some serious issues and shouldn't be allowed to own a firearm. If you are convicted of possession or use of an illegal drug you'll likely be denied the right to purchase a firearm from a dealer. I always inform my younger clients to be aware of the consequences of getting caught!

Some "food for thought" for an "open mind" .....

If ..... You "get attacked" on two "sites", that have two different type of people ..... people's perception of your intent may not mirror your intent, or your not stating your intent in a way to "open minds", but it gets others to be "confrontational" .....

The "original site" always warned, that people "reading" a "post" is NOTHING like an "in person" conversation .....

 

Hmmm. Hold on. Maybe not so clear cut. We had this discussion earlier. The definition of what is "illegal" is important, and what is a "prescription". The rule is as follows and describes both:

who is under the obvious influence of alcohol or drugs before starting or during any event, sub-event, shoot-off or practice, or who consumes any alcoholic beverage or drugs during participation in any event, sub event or between events or sub events held on the same day including shoot-offs and practice. For purposes of this rule, “drugs” shall mean any illegal drug, and shall also mean any prescription medication if that prescription medication affects the judgment or conduct of the contestant to a degree that renders the contestant incapable of safely

I will ask the obvious then: Let's say someone at the Colorado State shoot shows up at the line smelling like a bag of Columbian Gold. His eyes look blood shot. But he looks more stable than 2 of the old farts at the line.

Old fart number 1 mentions the younger shooter with the bloodshot eyes needs to be disqualified.

The guy with the bad breath admits to smoking some herb. Pot/hooch/mary jane/bud/puff etc is legal in Colorado and it is not a prescription.

What rules and laws are applied? Reading this it is almost as if it was written to permit marijuana in some states.

Doc Federal Law trumps State law thus the use,possession and sale of POT is illegal regardless of any law that a State has passed.

 

Gun free zones, drug free zones all seem to be working having been addressed prior , What's the problem ..? Drugs may be illegal, but so are invaders of our country and they are both all over the place and readily available ... Because something is illegal does not mean you can't get it, it just means it is illegal ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Explain why you are so silly to gamble your freedom on getting high. Does your freedom mean so little to you. What about the club you shoot at. You know it will get closed down if it becomes known that the shooters are all high on Pot. The local government will declare it a public nuisance and shut your doors. So are you willing to put that on the line so you can smoke a joint. If so then maybe you shouldn't have a gun in the first place.

So, you are assuming he smokes pot by the statement you made ..? There are a multitude of people who believe others should be able to make their own choice and not be governed by what someone else wants or thinks should be initiated as laws ... You posted something from : 05-18-16 which by now is slightly out dated if nothing has happened since or because of what you posted, which I believe would be the point being made ... They have laws about Illegals also and you see what they mean to anyone who has the power to enforce them ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

 

DEA enforcement, or lack thereof has nothing to do with the questions as it relates to the ATA. The ATA rule addresses "illegal drugs," ... pot is an illegal drug under federal law. Therefore, absent some clarification from the ATA for certain states, it would seem to me that it is banned at all ATA shoots. Maybe you won't be arrested, but it is still illegal under federal law, which applies in every state.
