One ounce maximum trap loads

Wouldn't one ounce loads help us attract and keep shooters that are shorter, smaller, lighter....etc.?

International shooting gets it.

Sporting Clays could use the same rule or not?

 

I agree even 7/8 would do the job. No need for any added concrete. But I don't think we will see any changes! The power players seem to be fine with everything like it is.

 

Shorter, smaller, lighter can use 7/8 or 1oz. Why would "mandating" attract more shooters?

 

The op did not say they couldn't.

Everyone with a 6th grade education understands you are at a disadvantage with lighter loads.

Youth, lady shooters, and older shooters could handle the recoil better. Cutting the costs of reloading by 15% is another benefit.

 

If you are going to make the game adaptable to shorter, lighter, smaller, shooters why not eliminate 12 gauge and make everyone shoot 20 gauge (reduced pay load) , then make a yard 30 inches to move everyone closer, make targets bigger and therefore easier to hit ... Before you know it, the game will be flooded with little people, more catagorys ... Yep there you go, all fixed ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

I get your point. But that is not my intention with the post.

I was implying the reset button. A time similar to the 1200 feet per second era. I know you can remember when the AA red 1200 fps shells were the best out there. Easy to shoot. Not much recoil. A challenge to shoot from the 27 and get a perfect score.

The 1 1/8 ounce 1350 fps shells and narrow angles have ruined the sport.

Just asking for a reset button to one ounce at any speed.

 

If that is what you wanted, you should of asked for it ... My ex used to beat around the bush all the time, I was constantly confused and she seldom got what she wanted because she never really asked for it ... Why not 1200 fps , 1 1/8 th and be done with it ... It won't make the ammo company's happy with all of the good stuff they got on hand ... Reset 1200 FPS, and see if it works ... I seldom shot AA's, they gave me a head ache but Federal paper didn't ... Been gone to long and forgotten ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

 

Ah WPT you finally got to the money question. Just needed a way to get you to ask.

"Why not just 1200 fps?"

Answer: Because speed cannot be enforced. It cannot be measured before a shoot or during a shoot. Looking at a red shell you cannot tell the velocity.

Put a box of 25 on a scale and you know how much it weighs.

Certainly you remember the 90's when the shells at the grand were all hopped up. Some more than others. Big problem was the pros getting free shells were getting those all year.

One ounce is one ounce. Easier to enforce.

 

Easier to enforce but velocity still is a problem ... Your not going to hit a reset button at this stage of the game (been gone to long and forgotten) for that to happen ... The rule was always + or minus 5% so for the most part they were covered ... The big guns I have talked to shoot "handicap loads" for handicap and suggest others do the same if they really want to try and level the playing field ... Years of dedication has to count for something ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

 

I would shoot more if we all were using one ounce.

 

If recoil is an issue there are various devices that can minimize it. Next thing is a semi-auto which is really tame with 1 1/8oz. loads. It's way too easy to cheat with a 1 oz. rule!

 

Personally, I tend to think it would not attract or keep shooters in the sport since lighter loads are available and can be used at the choice of any shooter. But . . . . . . who am I to disagree with this notable shooter's opinion?
