In Ukraine, lots of people are carrying auto-loader shotguns ; just in case they are targeted by enemy drones.

There they don't say pull--they say"duck" & its a different kind of "duck"

With all the drone activities in the foreign wars lately, I curiously ask AI the best ways to defeat them.
The shotgun was a last resort at close range according to Google's AI.

Calling duck instead of pull is dark humor, but it fits. It’s a whole different kind of clay when the thing is trying to kill you.

Yeah, I’ve seen the shift firsthand out there. Used to be you grabbed a rifle for the usual threats, but once those little FPV drones started buzzing in low and fast, everybody who could get their hands on a semi-auto 12-gauge started keeping one close, farmers, drivers, even folks just walking the streets. The spread of the shot gives you a real chance when something that small and quick is diving on you.

At close range, say 20 yards and in, any size shot would work. Personally I would like to stop the drone further out, 40-50 yards if possible. I have no idea how fragile drones are and what it takes to fully disable one so that it can't keep flying after you. I would be afraid that 7 1/2 or smaller shot would lack energy to disable at 40-50 yards. 6s would be the minimum I would think and 5s or even 4s would be better. 2s might lack pattern density at that range although the energy transfer from a single pellet might be enough to disable with 2s. If I had to pick just one size I would go 4s. With a semi auto, you could load 4s for the first shot, 5s for the second shot, and 6s after that. Smaller shot as it gets closer if you failed to disable with the longer first shot.

Makes sense in that context drones changed the game, so an auto loader becomes a practical last ditch tool instead of just a hunting gun. The duck line is darkly fitting less pull the trigger, more hit the dirt and hope you get a shot. Grim adaptation, but real.
