At the club in it's final days when “stuff” was being trashed I was lucky to spot one of the great “signs” and grabbed it. Had it ever since posted in my gun room. Ah the memories of shootin' at the club with Don Olmstead commander-in-chief running the Golden West Grand like clock work. Back (way back) you shot well and had your photo taken standing next to the famous Totem pole on the grounds. I recall winning the Golden West Grand singles event a few times over the years…that was then this is now I’m 81 years old still popping caps chasin 5 stand targets in northern Florida (of course). Who am I? Rhymes with Frank Kodl.

When I shot the GWG back in the day, if I remember correctly, there was a large section of tree trunk that had the winners names engraved in it. I recall seeing Kay's name for Handicap. If I'm correct, what become of it?

I know it's all relative. We were making enough money to pay the $10.00 but it's fun to see the difference.

 

Blowin' Smoke by Steve Carmichael was a great read about the Golden Days. I am not an Avis reader, but couldn't put his book down.

The piece of wood with all of the champions is in the Nevada Hall of Fame.

Leave a message if I miss you. I liked Reno a lot more than Vegas. I always felt it was a more Friendly place, it probably didn't hurt I shot well there and won some cash in town too. Floyd Natrass tried to teach how to play craps at the table at the club. I watched him loose 200 bucks in two throws and told him I didn't think I could aford him teaching me. Good times.

 

Taking into account the $400.00 added money in the 25 bird event, the birds cost somewhat less than $1.00 apiece. In 1958 or 1960, in PA., practice birds were 75 cents, shoot birds were a dollar.

 

In 1985 I shot a live bird event behind the Mustang Ranch, the last name of the people running the Reno Club then was Moore and I can't for the life of me remember their first names, a man and wife. The Trap Club not the bird shoot or the whore house so no one gets the wrong idea. There was an ATA event at the club and bird shoot behind the ranch, I can only guess what event was at the ranch.
