What happened to ACTIV SHOTSHELLS?

Are they hard to find or gone?

 

I just got back from dove shooting in Argentina and they had Activ shells there. They were newer production and made in Argentina, I was surprised to see them, I know they have been gone here in the states for quit a while, so I don't know what the deal is??

 

Too expensive to produce, more STS & AA, substantially more so than euro style w/ separate base wad.

The extra complexity of design, tooling, and production more than outweighed the savings of not using a brass cap.

The US tooling went to Argentina. Low volume, domestic sales only, and almost certainly cheaper to keep repairing that tooling and equipment than buy and produce new stuff.

 

I really liked Activ hulls. When I started I loaded on a Pacific 366 and with the Activ hull I could skip the separate resizing station. Saved time. I did have one separate on a trap field but I don't know how many times I had loaded it. The last case I bought came from a trap club in Dutchess County NY, I think I still have the carton!

 

A lot of the hot shells used to get stuck in the Ljutic Mono guns. Activs popes right out of mine. .

How were they in semi autos?

 

failed to extract. the lip was flimsy and wore.
but their crimps far outlasted AA's at the time.
