Hello: I have shot tournaments feeling just great and I have shot some terrible scores. On the other hand, I have shot feeling sick but for some reason I had a good score? Years ago, I knew of a shooter here in Wisconsin who had just gotten off work and he was reluctant to even shoot. He finally decided to shoot Sunday's Handicap at the Waukesha state shoot. The morning of the shoot I spoke to him and he was as white as a sheet with a fever and told me that he could hardly stand up on his own. I suggested that he not shoot and he told me that he was already squaded with four of his friends and would attempt to get through the handicap event. He mentioned he was in the calcutta and he purchased himself for $20.00. I wished him lucked and later that day I asked a friend who shot with him if he was able to hang on and finish the handicap event? He said he threw up between sub events but finished. He also told me he shot a 99. A couple weeks later, I ran into this guy at the club and he told me that he actually won the handicap and made roughly $13,000 by shooting that 99. I asked what he intended to do with that money? He said I asked my wife if she wanted to go to Europe and she said no, so I purchased a new Harley. If you would have seen how sick he looked you would have never believed he could have shot so well. Any of you ever shoot a really good score feeling really sick? Any one have an answer to how someone can shoot that well being so sick? Steve Balistreri Wauwatosa Wisconsin
In golf, it's called "beware of the sick golfer", because you feel badly, you don't dwell on a bad shot or whatever, you just want to keep going forward. I imagine it's the same in shooting, because of the similar mindset, and yes, I've done both.
