Open note to our directors at the state and higher level. You will soon see that your failure to keep our adult trapshooters will show its ugly face again. The grand numbers will be down as proportionately as the state failed.

We can’t sustain the sport like this. Less than 300 shooters at our state shoot? Do you expect more will show up in Sparta?

We can’t keep the kids. The sport is doomed unless we can changed target presentation and the rewards. The kids are brighter than the adults. They won’t shoot for points.

Another contract will be given to the failure in charge. Delegates are clueless!

I talked to Kiner today about some things and I asked him what he knew about Nebraska State Shoot. I haven't been there for years and when I read this thread I was trying to remember Jim Beck's name and also we talked about all the good shooters that Nebraska had back in the 70's when I started shooting ATA. I remember Buford Baily and his son and BE Morrisey (Spelling) best, back then Nebraska had a big state shoot.

Kiner told me that today not so many ATA men but the Kid's high school shoot had 1800 shooters. I don't think that shoot was registered, but I could be wrong.

This got me to thinking and Nebraska isn't the only state that has lost a hugh percentage of there shooters since the ATA left Vandalia. In fact I'll say, and see if anyone can prove me wrong, that there is no state that has a larger ATA state shoot today than they did in 2004 when the grand moved to Sparta, Illinois. Not Nebraska, not even Illinois. So when Nebraska's home grown ATA president said that the states west of Ohio would replace the shooters lost from the east it looks like he was wrong, again.

We have plenty of shooters in Nebraska. We don’t have leadership at the ATA top or State Level anymore. The kids aren’t interested in the boring ATA game. SCTP and AIM move on. Our leaders are too greedy and senile to make a change.

Our Executive Director has overseen the demise of trapshooting. The crooked folk at the top will give him a new contract.

One of the best additions to the Nebraska Stare Shoot has been Joy Trim. Because of the grants she’s applied for and received, we now have a new PA system throughout the grounds. She also received a grant to update the camper hookups to 50 amps. The current kids scoring for the state shoot are incredibly better than some years past. I disagree with the kids not shooting ATA. You simply have to go to the ATA shoots around Nebraska as well as other state shoots nationwide to see them. Certainly not the 2700 kids at the high school trap shoot over three days in the spring, but still quite a few of them shoot ATA. We currently have the number one Sub Junior in the country, and last year had the captain of the Junior All American Team. Gavin Kuck, who is a Nebraska Jr shooter, just completed his grand slam at 16 years of age. It takes money, talent and commitment to get to that level, and believe me it takes all three of those things in todays game. I think currently we have a minimum of at least a half dozen kids shooting ATA that can compete with anybody in the country. I think new faces and fresh ideas are definitely needed at the top in most things, and certainly at Nebraska. Do I see that in the near future?.. No.

Another Nebraska shooter I played a lot of cards with was Tom Buxman (spelling again). I remember Tom was a corn farmer from western Nebraska. Another nice guy. Today Ricky is the only shooter from Nebraska I know other than the past president hof board member.

Maybe because grand island triples there hotel rates and takes advantage of the venue. Same as state fair. There are no vendors or other activities to do. No extra fun events.
