Well the Grands off to a good start only down a handful of shooters through the first three events. About 41 shooters

Looks like they're up over a hundred shooters in today's singles.

They would need to be up well over 500/750 per event to make it anything like it used to be and more ... The people can have demolition derby's there in the off season, looks like its going to be a long one according to the latest news ... WPT ... (YAC) ....

Look at event 5 scores.I don't think the targets were very easy.A lot of good shooters didn't do very well .They got down to the low 90s very quick.I don't the know weather conditions but some of the top shooters just shot about average.Wonder if they were shooting some 3 hole targets. Some of the shooters are my friends and I wonder what happened ?? Maybe tomorrow will be a better day.Maybe they are just warming up...

Events 4-5-6 shooters are up a total of 583 entries, which did not actually surprise me as they think this will be their last shoot at Sparta.

Or they're going into full cheerleader mode and entering everything to try to make the participation look higher. The number of distinct shooters is most important, not merely the number of shooters per event.

Remember this is the last year of our ten year leases. I'm pretty sure a decent number of shooters are attending because it's the last year on their lease. Unfortunately, for the ATA there are 11 shooters near me who are not renewing no matter the price as they have decided this is their last grand. Admittedly, age is a factor for many.

That's a shame. In looking at the program, the International and 28 Gauge events were the most interesting.

    Here's the 28 Gauge results:

    http://www.shootata.com/Portals/0/pdf/results/28GaugeEvent_Updated.pdf

Why doesn't the ATA list this as one of the numbered events?

The 28 Gauge was a great event. 100 Shooters.

    No 100%
    No 98-99%
    No 97-96%
    2 - 94%
    1 - 92%
    3- 90%

Congrats to all the 28 gauge entrants.

Correction. It looks like 152 shooters participated in the 28 gauge event.

Only 4% broke 90% of targets. Now that's a real shooting match.

Does anyone know how much shot is in a 28-gauge shell? I shoot one for skeet sometimes and think it's "tops" there, but I've never noticed what it says on the box.

That is not WalMart, that is the State of Illinois for you ... The State will probably have more input in queering the deal for the WSRC than the "Giant Crowds" and traffic jams in downtown Sparta ... If I was not given a choice other than buying ammo on the grounds I would leave and sent a letter to the Governor and the ATA ... But, that is the way it goes in the big city and cirrounding suburbs ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

This years Grand attendance was essentially the same as last years. This was the last year of the ten year leases so there were some shooters who attended because it was their last year. Leases aren't being renewed in many cases and the future really looks like smaller attendance in coming years. Very unfortunate, I have nothing against Sparta as I personally think it's a great facility. The numbers are at the point where several clubs could handle the Grand without much change to their current facilities. Which will probably happen sooner than later as the money is just not being generated to sustain the Sparta facility.

If this is not PITIFULL showing , please tell me what is ..? This could of been run on 50 or less traps and still been done in daylight ... The numbers posted by event: For all events of the grand with 24 events posted indicates a total of 30,077 entry's @ $3 per = (drum roll please) $90,231.00 for a shoot thats being hosted at $31.4 million dollar facility paid for by the good people in the State of Illinois ... If this is not a PITIFULL showing , please wake me from this nightmare ... This could of been run on 50 or less traps and still been done in daylight and cut the cost or labor considerably ... When the State of Illinois see's these numbers I got a feeling there is going to be hell to pay ... If this is the "Fantastic Direction" that has been talked about and broadcast to the Public on a public TV station, by Lynn (The Talking Head) Gipson as a representative of the ATA and all of its members as well as the shooting industry he mentioned we are truly in trouble and to say its embaressing would be understatement ... The Great State of Texas, Ohio, Indiana, and any others that were mentioned or considered will be sending a letter of condolances in the near future ... (Maybe)

Cost of Operations and Maintainance (WSRC) ..: ..................... $3,000,000 (Approx, States figures)
    Revenue generated at the grand ................................................ $ 90,231 ( Guesstimate )

Differential for others to cover ................................................... $ 2,909,769 ( all other events for the fiscal year, their share)

If the fees were $ 25.00 as suggested by AZCOtrap it would be $751, 925.00 for the State (WSRC) ... for a created shortfall of $2,224,075 ...
So to cover it would cost just under $100.00 per person ... ($99.75 actually) Now, thats a shoot you can sink you teeth into ...

I am truly glad that those who attended made a good showing and no doubt represented the members well ... Last one out turn out the lights and get off that table Mabel that 2 Bucks is for beer ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

The black cloud that looms over the ATA and Sparta will be there long after the blame game is over ... If the WSRC shuts down and becomes a wasteland Sparta will blame the ATA and the membership ... The ATA EC and BOD will feel as though the members let them down and not the other way around as it should be ... The ATA created the downword spiral, not the members, they were forewarned and made the choice to ignore those who make up the organization beyond the BOD and EC ... The members do retain the power, just not on paper like it once was ... Make a plaque with all of those who got the ATA into this mess and put it someplace where you cannot help but see it for the world to see and enjoy, think HOF building entrance ... WPT ... Low Scores.

This was my observation of the reason for the lower scores.

It appeared that they were throwing a peg hole three target close to fifty yards. I never got to see them set the targets to verify the angles.

That is the only thing that I could see that would make up for the lower scores. The weather was hot and a little windy but this would not make for the lower scores. Now I hope they would enforce the target height rule. If they do we should give them a BIG atta boy. Roger C

I sure don't see any scores that could be considered "low."

In the ATA Clay Target Championship, for example, 592 of 2017 shooters, 29%, scored 98%, or better.

From the ATA website, 32 200's, 82 199's, 100 198's, 115 197's, 138 196's. By my math that is 471 shooters broke 196 or more or about 23%. For the mathematically challenged, 77% broke less then 98%. Tom

Wow, I've been called out. Cut me some slack, kiddo. The ATA isn't modern enough to post the data in csv. I'm doing back-of-the-matchbook, here.

Well, I was. Now I have the event fully imported into Excel.

    2015 ATA Clay Target Championship

2009 Total Shooters (Zero-point scores excluded)

    >98%, 471/2009, 23.4%

    >95%, 1138/2009, 57%

    >92%, 1551/2009, 77%

    >90%, 1707/2009, 85%

    >85%, 1885/2009, 94%

For the sporting challenged, any event in which 85% competitors shoot a 90%, or better is way too easy and struggles to be legitimately classified as a sport. Any match in which 94% of the competitors shoot 85%, or better redoubles the prior point.

Should have let this one go, Bud. A full breakdown of the data makes your side look even worse than the initial number I posted.

I just reviewed the scores from the GAH Hdcp, 19 scores 97 and above, 14 were 27 yard shooters,1 26 yd shtr, 2 22 yd shooters 1 20 yard shooter, and 1 19.5 yd shtr a score of 96 was the score of the day

These are easy targets, a competitive target would have been the target of choice.

NOTE: None of them were the BIG DOGS , with a 99 or 98, seems they were in an off day.

With your skill set, a gun club or any other organization, for that matter, could do nothing but prosper under your guidance.

With the brilliance you display hourly on this site, maybe you could enlighten us as to how a once prosperous gun club in Phoenix could possibly go broke with you on the board?

    Jo2,
If you would of been a member you would of known that the club was in trouble before I and a few others got involved , by then there was nothing that could be done ... The club had not been prosperous for many years though it may of appeared to be there were debts from as far back as 10 plus years that had to be paid besides lawsuits for shells that never got to the club ... There were no less than 4 contracts (that we found out about) signed by a previous president listing the club for sale (thats not even legal, more lawsuits) ... If we had been involved long before we were things would of turned out differently ... The way it was there was nothing that could of been done ... Thats the way it goes sometimes, called beyond our control and no way to undo some of the things that were done ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
