The Shriners charities have one of the highest ratings for the percent of money actually going for it's intended purpose, somewhere around 93%. In my opinion it is one of the best organizations to donate to get the best bang for your buck.

Lets see all the shooters scores and the amount raised for this good cause.

As far as the shooters who shot their first shells on the trapline I hope they were "bitten" by the shooting bug.

Thanks for the kind words Gary. Sharon just loves going toe to toe with the guys on the "outlaw shoots" / games. She is a bit sketchy on the singles but gets real tough when she gets back past the 27 yard line. I guess somebody forgot to tell her that her gun runs out of pattern past the 27, haha! I look forward to the day that DLS gets his new foot and can once again shoot standing up. Doc was the last shooter in the group to miss during the miss and out which is pretty darn good for a guy still learning to shoot from a chair! Doc didn't miss until they put the trap in "crazy" mode to speed up the shoot. It was sure fun to take the line with my old friend Brad. Brad rolled out there with a model 12 he had never shot and broke the first 25 singles (the only one on our squad to run 'em). We beat him up a bit on the handicaps cuz the model 12 was a bit flat shooting for Brad's style, but he was a good sport about it. Thanks to all the hard working folks that put this shoot together and made it a big success for a great charity!

The best thing about the whole thing was everyone had a good time and had some fun ... I am a Shriner and tried to get a bunch from the Shrine to shoot a few times, could not muster much interest ... I did shoot with a few Mason's who would keep you honest on some of those game shots ... Best fun I ever had was at a Turkey/Ham shoot and a little girl had to shoot against me in a shootoff ... I won't tell you who won but you never seen such a smile on a kids face in all your life after she got her Ham , then I gave her a turkey also because she couldn't make up her mind at first which she wanted ... You had to be there ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Wouldn't it be great if we were a required to play by the same rules.
It is unfortunate that a gun club would allow anyone to participate without proper ear and eye protection.

  59. Dave Berlet

I agree that everyone should wear eye and ear protection, but that is an ATA rule and at a non ATA sanctioned shoot it is entirely up to the individual or club about wearing eye or ear protection. Also many of the games that are shot at this type of shoot are very different than the events at an ATA sponsered event.

I was zinging Dr LS, knew he had to have a legit reason, now I am sorry I pointed this out ... I think its more of a club rule than Official rule santioned and enforced by the ATA ... I am very protective of my friends ... (lol) ... WPT ... (YAC) ... " NEVERMIND "

Not being required by the club to wear eye and hearing protection is a good basis for a lawsuit. After all this is America where most people don't believe in personal responsibility.

Flyers it is in the rule book under Safety if you care to look it up.

This is not an ATA issue.
This was clearly non registered shoot.

I travel a bit and every club I attend requires Ear and Eye protection for Practice or games or any shooting. Failure to comply typically means loss of shooting privileges.

I am surprised that any club in this day and age wouldn't require Ear and Eye protection for all participants and trap help. I must admit I have not been to the club in question.

It surprises me how unfamiliar some posters are with the basic rules.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

How about trying to hear the pullers response after you ask, "ARE YA READY?"

Or when you are trying to hear your partner in a 1-5-9 race that cost $200.00 per team.

Or in a $50.00 miss and out that has moved so far back the puller is WAY off to the side of you and the empty shell box the first shooter used as marker once you all moved WAY past the 35 yard stake.

    Yeah I didn't think so.

I'm not from Ohio and the shoots were down the road from Hegins. That's not in Ohio either.

The rest of the shooters in those miss and outs, the ones still in, and the spectators that are betting money on the outcome of every bird are standing right next to you. Most of the time talking out loud to see if you have "rabbit ears".

One of the best Flyer shooters I ever had the good fortune to shoot against and talk to NEVER wore glasses or earplugs.

NONE of the clubs that held those shoots for ALL those years EVER told one shooter that they had to wear earplugs and glasses.

I recently pointed out, to management, during a shoot where the help, which were youngsters were not heeding to this rule (both hearing and eye protection) when reloading the traps. Management seemed interested in my statements but nothing was done and activity persisted. How does one disqualify trap personnel when the one who are able to remove or change the behavior do not honor the rules in which they are supposed to? I probably should have been more insistent and showed this rule.

How does one convince the trusty shoot officials collecting the score sheet at the scorer stand need to have hearing protection in place while on the field.

Now, in USAS competition it is only recommended, or urged.

I forgot got to mention to the newbie shooters that the fat bulge in my hip pocket is handicap money, when the grand was grand that's what we shot for, notice no pink ribbons or fancy vest either. Just that fat wallet, ah the good old days.

The only place I am ever shooting trap at in one of my dreams is Vandalia. I thinks that's odd, never any other club, and when I dream about pigeons it's always Holfords, yea all you Sparta lovers that's in Illinois, Canton. The best live bird shoots I ever attended. I hated to see that place close as much as I did Vandalia. Brad

I know I've been out of the shooting circuit for 30+ years, and it was sad to find out about Vandalia. But now I find out that Holfords is gone also. Tuff place to shoot with those trees so close to the ring. Made those birds really fly wild. But that's what ya want. Went there only one time. Great people. Did spend some time traveling with Herb Gebbler who was a good friend of mine to some of the Pa rings. My most memorable shoot was a shoot off with the World Champion Charlie Miller. Ya, I never wore ear plugs either, neeed to hear those traps open and dump a round ASAP over the trap.

Joe thanks for reminding me about this fun shoot. This is a good example of what a web site can get going. Rodger Edgington was the driving force behind it and I was just a "tool" in more ways than one. It's a long drive from my house to Knox but for the money we raised for the kids it was worth it.

I bought a pheasant mount off of the silent raffle and see it everyday at my club to remind me of how much fun that event was. I'm surprised that more clubs don't do those fun things, maybe it's to much work. Rodger was also my cohort with the Grudge Match.

I was glad to talk to him at the State Shoot and see that he was doing well and back among the living. Brad

Brad....one of the most memorable days in my trapshooting life and I only had a camera. Watching Longshot smoke all but one of the best in NE OH in the Annie was priceless. And it was his first shoot in a wheelchair. Thousands raised for Children's Hospital.

Thanks for driving across the state to be tournament director at a small club Knox Township. 550 miles round trip. All for Children's Hospital. joe

Brad you said...This is a good example of what a web site can get going.

This was a lonnng time ago. lol Family Guy (me) was still learning to hold a camera. We also hoped to show the strength of our forum. Could we market something like this? Would the forum be viable? Could the forum members promote the shoot. Wow! great fun. Lousy pictures. lol
