What is the status on the project to create a new independent trapshooting organization? At one time there was a lot of talk on this website about creating a new trapshooting organization that was total independent of the ATA . The organizer(s) posted a draft of the copy of the proposed rules and policies and some members provided feedback. Then we were told by the organizer(s) that the first shoot had been scheduled with more to shoots to follow as other states signed on to support this new organization. Is this still an active project or did it die? If it died, what killed it?
A new baby requires an immense amount of care and dedication from strong, young parents. The talent pool is either living in Mom's basement or they're down at the Tat Parlor buying some ink.
New organizations were attempted before, none of which were successful in replacing the ATA. Here's one that only lasted about 4 years. I believe when they folded, the idea of the Pacific International Trapshooting Association (P.I.T.A.) emerged. TRAPSHOOTERS FORM BRAND NEW ASSOCIATION After being discussed for several years the Western Amateur Trapshooters Association was born in Coffeyville, Kans., the home of the far-famed Walter Johnson, Fred Etchen, and other more or less well-known individuals in the world of sport, a few days ago. The association plans to assume control of trapshooting in the Western States. Just how far this control will go is something that is to be proven in 1925, for the Amateur Trapshooting Association assumes control over trapshooting in every state. The Western Association disclaims any intention of fighting the national body. There is no objection to a shooter being a member of both organizations and it is just possible that both the Amateur Trapshooting Association will conduct championship tournaments in each Western State. The Westerners claim they have not been given the consideration they deserve by the officers of the A. T. A. and in consequence plan to do things for themselves. They intend to promote trapshooting thru gun club organization, league shoots and state organization increasing the number of registered shoots and developing new shooters. When this is done, they will make efforts to assist in the efforts to make better game laws and to protect and conserve our game. Other than that, they haven’t cut out a thing for themselves to do. They have affiliated with the Izaak Walton League and membership in the association will be $1.00 to members of the Walton League and #2.00 to those who are not. The $2.00 will make one a member of both organizations. It is planned to conduct a Great Westerner Handicap in Chicago in June. George C. Franklin, of Denver, editor of the gun and ammunition department of Outdoors America is the President of the Western A. T. A. with Fred Clarke, of Winfield, Kansas, vice president; Jack Smith of Chicago, secretary and Douglas Franchot of Tulsa, Oklahoma, treasurer. Fred Clarke is the former manager of the Pittsburgh baseball team. He is one of the wealthiest men in Kansas. Franchot is one of the largest oil producers in Oklahoma. The headquarters of the association will be 4400 Drexel Boulevard, Chicago. [ DAILY NEWS TRIBUNE, Greenville, Ohio, February 1925 ] Enjoy Our History !
Apathy: lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concern. Apparently, the organizer(s) did not do the work required to determine the amount of interest and enthusiasm by trapshooters and potential supporters for a new organization before taking on this project. In hindsight, failure was probably for the best. The future of trapshooting looks bleak to me.
Very astute! Such organizations do indeed have an intrinsic element of socialism. For a new organization to succeed it must offer some added value as did sporting clays. Samosamo ATA'ish doesn't cut it. Something like the US DTL League might but mo' ATA is DOA
