I took my 391 apart for its 1500 rd douche, and guess what ? two feet of the gas piston had broken off--no problem, I had a newer spare with 3 feet--will be getting another one from my sources--if the reliability problems of gas guns didn't bite me in the ass years ago-I would have stuck with them & saved a lot of $$$$; but damn it I'm starting to shoot the gas gun good again--who would have have thunk, using an Infinity as a back up ???
I assume your 391 is a DeVault conversion. Notice you were able to fix it yourself. You didn't have to ship it off to a gunsmith.
Leo always had a fishing tackle box (the largest one) full of 1100 parts when were shooting together. I'm with you I'd rather shoot an auto than any break open gun for sure. Reliability is the problem. I think the AL-300 series of auto's are the best Beretta has ever made. My 302 trap I got in 1983, I put a field stock on it and am using it for a hunting gun. I own one AL-1, two 302's, two 303's. I've owned 390's, 391;s but sold or traded them. I try and buy any 302's I can find but they are hard to come by and expensive when you find one.
Not a bad thing. I often switch between my SX-1's and my Krieghoff Trap Special. Since I tend to be awful lazy I might enjoy shooting the Krieghoff a bit more since cleaning is not an issue. When it comes to scoring I'd give the the edge to the Winchester since I believe it's more forgiving. That said, my 14 yo son asked me to try shooting an SX-1 this week in a practice session. After walking off the line he commented "this thing shoots real sweet". He did switch back over to his Trap Special (spoiled brat) for the next round and shot much better. I suppose the moral to this story is if a gun shoots where you're looking it doesn't matter much what you shoot.
Just spoke to one of my friends who is a horse trainer, she said the same BS is rampant @ horse shows, tons of categories-has clients who get their kids a $200K horse and if the kid doesn't get a ribbon or trophy its the HORSE'S fault Guess trap shooting is that exclusive after all
