Going to be 78 in a few weeks, my Infinity weighs 10 lbs and its getting too heavy for me to shoot more than 100 targets @ a time My DeVault 391 conversion weighs 8.4 lbs, hope it will make a difference despite the "SLOW" trigger My ? is --did any of the shooters out there my age have to go to a lighter gun & did it help? If I got a 10 yr renewal from God I would buy a TM9X with a 32" barrel, with a TSK stock
I'm 10 years younger than you and if I was shooting a lot I'd have to use a lighter gun. I'd also go to lighter shells, one oz are fine loads with little recoil and maybe even 7/8. Good for you that you still enjoy it.
I been shooting 1 oz loads--mostly Italian "good" stuff Experiencia--1 oz 8 1/2 @ 1208, also their 1 oz of 71/2 & # 8 @ 1144 Still have a bunch of B&P 1 oz @ 1160--real soft clean shooting shells And this time in life the only things I enjoy are trap shooting, fast cars & JW Black with corn flakes the real Breakfast of Champions
635.......I'm.very short of 80!$#? I shoot the TM9X & with a 32 in barrel. I had a certain amount of weight which I placed in the stock, Can't remember the amount as my notes are in Pa and I'm at the Dollar. Early this year i REMOVED all the weight and now shoot it as is............Feel a BIT more recoil but handle the weight better
635 G... If you get a chance, give the "new" Butler a try... Less recoil than my 391 and the trigger is 100% better than the 391 trigger. Trap3
Went to a practice trap today with my 391, smooth moves, it will be a learning curve; however when I picked up my Infinity--really felt the weight difference, but I was short shooting hard left targets due to the super fast Infinity trigger--its 3X faster than a Seitz
It is unfortunate Neil Winston pushed for faster shells. There was a time lighter guns were more comfortable to shoot. The new 3 dram load is the old 3 1/4. The EC and BOD are clueless about the issue.
At a club I shoot at Ashley Jones shot a side less than 1 million registered targets-he shot a TM1 with a soft touch--not a heavy gun
The Neil Winston that I knew shot Winchester Heavy AAM127 1 1/8 oz. # 7 1/2 shot @ 1200 FPS for caps and Winchester AA Lite AA128 1 1/8 #8 shot @ 1145 FPS for 16yds and doubles.
Just a word to the wise, don't buy any gun from a"mom & pop" shop--its a shame Dennis DeVault died, but support for his guns is now in the hands of one person--hope the same doesn't hold true for Butler, Bowen & Alferman
What size shell Neil shot means nothing. Neil was paid by Federal. There are some questions as to why and how he found time to do all his work. BS numbers if you ask me. Bottom line is Federal wanted hotter shells. Remington was already cheating. And Winchester had a shell deemed illegal. Neil’s idea was to change the speed and payload. Combining that with his push to easier targets destroyed the handicap system. Now we have hot shells and easier targets. And a handicap system that is broke.
I went to a 32" TMX w/softtouch it was an easy transition. It was a lot easier getting to the hard rights and lefts.
Just remembered when I was in NC, shot a lot with JC Nunn aka "the tail gunner" he shot competitively till the age of 95--he shot a Beretta 303 & he believed the gun kept him in the game longer & he could load that gun faster than I could load my 682 for doubles RIP JC
Like Brad, I am ten years younger than you -Already taking the first step - Soft touch stock and lighter loads -and pray for fewer hard left hand birds.
Hard lefts are a bitch with an arthritic spine--but getting use to the dynamic difference between my Infinity & my old 391 will take @ least 3000K targets also put new batteries in our scale--corrected weights 391--8 lbs, Infinity 9.5 lbs
