Sue 1s shooting on station 1. Her guns says on the barrel 3 dram only trap loads. The gun is 35 years old. Sue puts in one of the modern hot factory trap loads. One that many on this board would say is 3 1/4 dram. And then Ka*Boom! Steve on station 2 goes down to the ground. Sue stands there with shattered poly carbonate lenses. Blood is on her cheek. Steve has nickel plated shrapnel in his rib cage. Who or what organizations have exposure here?
Anyone that you can PROVE knew there was negligence and allowed someone to get hurt. In layman's terms .... no one.
There is no such thing as a gun that is designed to shoot only 3 dram trap shells. If a shotgun has a 3 on the barrel, it is for 3" magnum ammunition.
Then there shouldn't be any guns doing the Ka*Boom! I know of at least one gun co that implies their gun is only to be used with factory trap loads.
Paul, before a shotgun leaves the factory, it is shot with proof loads that far exceed (how much, I am not certain) the pressures that are generated by factory loads or recommended reloads. So, you are correct in your assertion, that there should be no guns blowing up on the line. I think that it is safe to say, that it is not a standard factory shell or a safe reload, that in no way differs from any other standard factory shells or safe reloads that have been shot in that gun over a period of time that causes it to blow up. There has to be something different about that shell that would cause the catastrophic failure of the firearm. Let's face it, it is probably prudent for a firearm manufacturer to recommend the use of factory ammo in the firearms that they produce. If a K80 blows up with a reload, somehow Krieghoff gets blamed for it.
If that happened Sue and the club she was shooting at would have a problem, with lawyers and the way the courts are today no one could be sure how a ruling would go, it's you are damned if you do and damned if you don't.
