That is not a legal shell at most clubs ( out here ) , they say no shot bigger than 7 1/2 's around here and if they catch you , you are gone ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
Our club KNOWS the 25-30 guys that show up on Thursday nights (used to, as in closed now due to virus) to shoot Annies shoot 6's and have no problem with it. They just started a once a month Saturday shoot when this pandemic hit. Shot from noon till about 5:00. Had 35 guys for the first one
ALL of the clubs out here designate no shot bigger than 7 1/2's, got it posted on the walls and at the doors ... There was more than one shooter asked to leave because they did not follow the rules ... If you shot 6's at the old Phx Club they could and would carry onto the road, hit cars passing (Mirage Rd) and the law would come knocking at the door ... We had guys loading big Boomers and all they did was make it where no body wanted to shoot with them, one guy almost destroyed a Model 12 shooting what ever the hell he was shooting ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
My preferred shell for 4th and 5th shot in Annie's is 1 3/8oz of copper-plated 6's. I find this in Remington's Premier Nitro Pheasant load. The clubs I shoot at don't ask what your shot size is for games..... It's my belief that your choke choice and your shooting skills are more important than your load when your targets are 60+ yards out as you pull the trigger.
Has anyone shot -- over even seen -- the new AA diamond shells? -- Thought that would be a great fence shooter factory shell --Just can't find them yet
The AA Diamond shells were advertised on a flyer I got for (I think) $11.99 per box (25) ... There was another flyer said $12.99 per box so I figure they are not going to be used by everyone ... The only thing I have seen is the flyers, none of them yet ... I googled them and it appears they are thinking primarily for Sporting Clays per a video on there ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
I know a lot of guys used them but they gave me a head ache ( don't know why) but they did so I opted for the Nitro' 27's and no head ache ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
My line shell is Win. Super Hdcp, 7 1/2s, around here we are not shooting ATA Targets, The ATA is almost gone. we thrive on Calcuttas, Annies, and Buddy shoots, this thing about 7 1/2s max shell size is a thing of the past, There is hardly any ATA shoots. For Cardinal Center ATA shoots, I shoot 1250 Fps 7 1/2s, like Super Hdcps. Nitro 27s, We have very few clubs here in Ohio that have confined spaces to require a 7 1/2 shot size limit. Our big Buddy shoots have 30 to 50 yard shootoffs and from extreme angles. To get into a shoot off you have to have a 10 bird, as he have 60 and 90 bird shoots so you would have 6-10 bird shootoffs or 9-10 bird shootoffs and each 10 bird shoot off win could be $300.00 so we are talking big money. We used to have a Big shoot in Kentucky the Wednesday before Thanksgiving every year that had this shootoff format. ALL top ATA shooters loved to shoot this shoot and drove over 300 miles to attend the shell of choice was Green Lizards Remington 1 1/2 oz #4s @1400+ FPS.We are talking Big Money, I have won 90 bird Buddy shoots of over $2000 my half. Doc, when was the last time you shot ..? You make it sound like it was yesterday yet when I talked to you several weeks ago you said you have not shot the new and improved CZ that you bought since having the release put in it ... Quit living in the past man ... I won a shoot once when I was 31, that's been over 40 years ago and I used factory ammo (Winchester Papers Handicap) ... You can talk reload till the cows come home I quit reloading 44 years ago ... WPT ... (YAC) ... PS If you think the ATA has left Ohio you best talk to the folks out at the Cardinal Center with the exception of the current condition of the world we live in It seems that they are doing rather well, I think you will realize your mistake really quick ... Yesterday, yesteryear, and tomorrow don't matter, its today that we are working on ... Happy Easter ...
Got the same flyer last year --Called Recob - our clubs trap supplier - they said they had them on order-to be delivered in January --Still have not shown up -- Like you said- at that price they aren't for everyone - like you, I gave up reloading - thought the plated shot would help when your shooting from the parking lot.
I would buy or box or 4 just to try them and see what the hype is all about, just hope they don't give me a head ache ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
Like my post said -- "shooting from the parking lot" --ATA - Haven't moved us back that far yet --Thought I would try them against all the hot shot - dynamite loading - Money shooters.
Bill, The super handicap shells that gave you a headache were not the ones you were shooting. It was the ones a was shooting and picking up your pieces. Roger C.
