I talked to Bob Zimmerman and he told me that the NICS shut down yesterday about 5 pm. I wonder if anyone on here tried to buy a gun today and how it went?
Can't help with the NICS report but I can tell you that along with the other 400+ guns I'm selling I had one of those NIB Kel Tec, black, bullpup, shotguns listed for about 9 months with NO hits. NADA! In the last week? 13 hits and a sale to the first guy that asked. I have stuff from the Field Grade Model 12's I have listed on our site all the way to a NIB Colt Double Diamond set and what I wished I had right now was a truck load of "home defense" shotguns.
Bob owns his own gun shop and he told me he didn't ' know whether NICS just crashed or was shut down. He also told me that it was very slow the days before yesterday and he thought it was because of so many first time gun buyers. Here in Ohio if you have a Concealed Permit that was issued after a certain date you can buy a gun without the wait of NICS because you have already had a background check. Sort of a reverse FOID card.I Of course I doubt many on here have to buy a gun to fill safe so a little waiting period wouldn't kill us, but it just might if you live in California, 10 days wait, or one of the other commie states. I wonder how those first time buyers in these states feel about the 2nd now wanting a gun for protection and realizing they let their rights get taken away. They can't even find toilet paper after they find out. Brad
Nics system is up and running but very long wait times 75 minute wait sunday mourning. If you have a CCW after 3-23-2015 there is no Nics check just fill out 4473 and your good to go.
I don't know what you guys have to use in OH but here in PA the "instant check" system is a phone call to Harrisburg. I had my own FFL for 20 years (dropped it in 2009) so I know a little about how it worked. Fill out the 4473, dealer calls it in, no problem? out the door you go. Now the great state of PA collects a fee for this which the dealer naturally passes on to the buyer. That along with his own fee for doing the "instant check". Usually a couple of bucks. If memory serves it was $5.00 to the state and $2.00 to the dealer. Don't post that I have the wrong number. I told you that was 11 years ago. My point is, PA. WOULD CUT YOUR MOTHERS THROAT FOR A NICKEL. There is no way in the world PA would shut down anything that could make them money. More than likely a back up like you guys said.
The only thing I got the other day is that " Due to high volume there will be a wait" No notice on shut down.
A Saturday all day they would say goodbye at the end of their talk about echeck and the echeck was down to.
I just sold two handguns and both buyers cleared in seconds. PICS is up and running although most gun shops are not.
I had a handgun come in Friday to my gunstore in Oregon, went in did paperwork and thumb prints then told I was .number 1770, I left and got a call Saturday by 1 in afternoon that I had cleared and could pick up gun. Store owner said Saturday wait was at 2300 plus
