I am curious about ‘rules’ that may apply to shooting a semi-auto in ATA competition without a shell catcher. My gun has a knock down pin in the barrel sleeve that works 100 pct. of the time. The shells always land about 2 feet to my right and about 1 foot forward. Essentially, no where near the shooter next to me...ever. I have used both types of shell catchers with success, but almost always over the course of shooting 100 rounds, a few shells will drop into the receiver and have to be fished out. This becomes a concentration distraction to a degree, something I am trying to completely eliminate. If its okay for doubles should it be an issue with singles?
It's your money, shoot what you want, However, use a shell catcher or knock down pin on your barrels if you don't want any dirty looks or remarks about your ancestry or IQ.
Don't confuse etiquette with rules. Etiquette is haveing respect for the other shooters on the gun line. If you don'yhave any don't worry about it, some one will come along who will educate you. If your knock down pin places the spent hull where it doesn't distract others including not having to walk over or move them from where you shoot I am sure nothing will be said. On the other hand, if they hit another shooter or even worse hit thier gun, again some on will educate you about that also. Shoot well, ccridr
Another aspect with an autoloader is knowing when to close the bolt, so it doesn't trip a Canterbury-when the the shooter to your left or just ahead of you, gun goes off close the bolt
I wish Browning or one of the other manufacturers would come up with a semi-auto trap shotgun that ejected from the bottom like the pump BPS or Model 37s do. Sure would make a lot happier bunch when shooting with a person who uses a Semi-auto without a catcher, and when shooting doubles.
I agree 100 percent on that --That is the biggest problem I have seen -- That applies to all autos Knock down pin or catcher
After buying DeVault guns, no more guns from mom & pop shops for me, Butler guns are great, but its not the longevity of the gun , but the longevity of the company--also, own a Boberg, another mom & pop shop gun--@ least Bond arms will do warranty work-had to have the gun treated with Robar NP3--so I would have to use anti-seize on the barrel block
