The 2020 Shot Show in Las Vegas

I spent 2 days at this years shot show and thought I'd give a report on my impressions of it. The first Shot Show that I ever attended was in 1985 at Atlanta, I think, and the last one was in 2013 so it had been awhile since I was at one.

For starters I have no desire in ever going to another one. I's guess that 80 to 90 per cent of the show was AR's and tactical stuff like clothes, vests, AR accessories, and the like. This black gun craze is not for me, I like wood and bluing. There was some trap shooting guns but you can tell that the shooting industry doesn't rank our shooting sport very highly. More sporting clays stuff could be found and I didn't see any skeet at all, maybe I'm just lucky.

No K guns, No P guns in attendance as both companies skipped the shot show. Beretta was there as was Browning. The shell companies were there but Trap was not represented much with them either as everything pointed to metallic center-fires for handguns and pistols.

I did talk to MidwayUSA Foundation Executive Director G. Scott Reynolds and Program Manager John Linquest about what was going on with them and Ohio's SCTP program and such but the one thing that really impressed me about our conversation was that John told me that the Foundation made 19% on their money last year for the teams that are with them, so the OSTA Foundation and the SCTP teams made out like bandits last year. All one needs to do is go to any gun show or range on a weekend to see auto pistols and AR-15 knockoffs everywhere. For every trap shooter I see at my club I see 20+ people shooting AR's and Glock clones. Apparently, that's where the money is today. And I have to admit I have an AR and a couple of automatics as does just about everyone I know.

 

Yeah, Clay Target Shooting is the forgotten child at these shows now.
I went to three: Atlanta, New Orleans and Dallas.
A little at Atlanta and New Orleans. Almost nothing at Dallas if I recall.

There is a gun show at Cross Roads here in Arizona annually, the representation is well rounded but as usual a lot more tactical than anything ... I can usually find something I have to have, one year I bought men's diamond ring with 7 stones at 4K total weight and 31 grams of gold (appraised @ $7,000) and a custom made Cow Boy hat ( made while you wait ) equal to a 50 X Stetson for $200 which is a great deal ( the same quality Stetson would be 3 x's that ) ...

My wife get nervous when I go to the dollar store because everything is only a buck and I am a power shopper ... I usually ask them why the shopping carts are so small ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

 

Dollar Tree, safe dehumidifiers $1 calendar $1 I usually buy 5 calendars every year and I figure it's like getting a free box of shotgun shells with every one. (most calendars are $6-10)

 

This was my 21st SHOT show. The last five years, I keep saying I'm not going back. I don't even like walking through the tactical rooms. It's a different crowd! I think they will have to split it into 2 shows.

 

I haven't bought a calendar in at least 20 years. I get so many from so many organizations that I give all but a couple to Goodwill.

Prolly not. Everyone but the tactical crap will just go away. Nothing to see here - move along.
