I used to watch it on TV Years ago, w/Dan Orlich and Hollywood stars participating against each other. I THINK Dan Bonillas & Steve Carmichael, participated, and several others. I think a new version would do very well. Straight Line for the shooters, a distance equal to what they shot at. 5 Posts w/2 shooters to a post. W/each backing up the misses. Targets would be the ones that PUFF when hit. 10 targets at each post, One for each shooter=50 targets a trap Voice Calls at each position, one voice call per pair-situated between them. The FAN STYLE same design they used I believe in California, Steve Carmichael may be familiar with the design, I think Steve Participated in this shoot. Television Stations and Advertising it could be on National Television, Like the Original Star Shot. We would need to find a " NICHE " name, so put your thinking caps on. One Vertical Sporting Clays Trap needed. Maybe we could get Mr. Fishburn to Build it at the GRANDSTAND It could be an Admission fee to watch. It would be a spectator sport, other shooters would watch, POWDER PUFF VERTICAL SHOOTING Gary Bryant The Man w/Ideas Dr.longshot
We could install a video tape system and video tape contestants shooting the Entire 50 targets and sell Disks. Each shoot would be video taped seperately, a Programmable sign w/ names of shooter on each post and Dated for Identification purposes, and filing, they could buy copies and give them out for Birthdays, Aniverseries, Promotions, We could invite Movie Stars, Politicians, The NRA, promoting Gun Safety, Family Shoots, GRUDGE MATCHES, I could design and sell complete systems, This is my Idea with Unlimited Potential, Shoot with ma mStar and buy your VIDEO DISK, to last a long time and memories of Mom And Dad, Grandpa, Grandma Etc, it's Unlimited. Remember it's My Idea, worth $Millions.
Calcutta's could be designed and shooters sold on Ability. Single shot guns used on Team shoots, or O/U but one shot shell in chamber. A pair could be thrown and 2 shooters backing up each other, 5 Single Shooters shooting Doubles, 3 Man Buddies w/a 3rd shot shooter, to back up the previous 2 shooters. This is Unlimited possibilities. Politicians shooter against each other, Governors shooting against Governors, Senators against Senators, Republican against Democrat promoting Gun Safety, Side Bets Unlimited, wagers,. CONVERTING OLD CLOSED TRAP RANGES TO A NEW VENUE, This is Unlimited HANDICAPPING @ 5 YARD Divisions, NO individual Yardages, suppose the line STD is 15 yards,+5yds=20 20+5yds=25 yards, 25+5yds=30 Yds The VERTICAL TRAP IS OSCILLATING DIFFERENT ANGLES. Gary Bryant The Idea Man..............................Dr.longshot
This could develop into a PROFESSIONAL SHOOTING SPORT @ A SPECIFIC YARDAGE, PROFESSIONAL TEAMS COULD EMERGE W/SPONSORS, COUNTRIES COULD COMPETE, A FIREARMS MANUFACTURER PARADISE DESIGNING A NEW SHOTGUN, FOR A NEW SPORT, MAYBE ADDIDA, AND SHOE MFGRS. BUILDING "PUFF THE MAGIC DRAGON COURSES"
If i remember, the quicker the shot the higher the point value. Kinda looked like a quarter of an oversized dart board.
WPT, ROGER COVELSKI does this Idea sound Interesting,? Remember This Is My Idea. Yes that is the way it was scored, the faster you shot and broke the target the higher the score. this would take a video to decide disputes, over 50% has to be below the line for the higher score/ my idea all has to be below the line for no disputes, , i suggest 1 oz nickle #8 shot, or steel shot, to solve the lead problem, shot has to be nickle plated no rust, pickup w/ magnet, no waste. GB.......................................DLS
I disagree Bama it was watched on TV and talked about in my Area of the country. My shell choice would be 1 Oz #8 Nickle plated @1350fps GB...................................DLS
I saw Dan Orhlic, Steve Car Michael, and Dan Bonillas on TV if I remember correctly, I think Roy Rogers shot it too, and some female stars. GB................................D
Diesel Thanks for finding it and posting, I never seen these guys shooting it before, would like to see Dan Orhlic shooting, My high shooting guns would be Ideal for this style of shooting. Did you all see the Furniture and background Very, Very Professional, It would be nice seeingnm Browning, Beretta, Perazzi, Kreighoff Etc advertising. GB....................................DLS
This would be Terrific Night Shooting Sport, no interruption of work schedule, no hot days, Etc. What dou you think Brad Dysinger, Dave Berlet, Don Cogan, Richard Marshall Etc. Gary Bryant The Idea Man Dr.longshot
Seeing that CLIP makes me feel like a kid again, full of Piss and Vinegar. GB..................................DLS
I wonder how many traps they were using in the Cli. I am thinking 3 One Left, One Vertical, One Right, three fixed trapsThe un-known Oscillating seems to be more of a challenge. W/a 45 to 60 degree angle. You need very good Reflex's for this style of shooting. And a very good Pattern, all Shotgun Gauges could Participate/Compete, singles, O/U, and SxS. GB................................DLS
I think grass growing beat it out in the excitement category, right up there with paint drying ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
While I liked watching it, Bama and wpt are correct that it didn't draw the interest needed to continue. I believe there were only 4 Star Shot grids in the USA and one by one they "went down the tube" as Bama said. I wanted to build one out of tubing, dig a trench in back the No. 8 post on our skeet field for the 4 traps and pull it up with a winch for night shooting once a month. Never started the project. Bud Fini, Remington Rep and now I believe is still with Sig Sauer, was the referee. Neat to watch the first time but the clubs that had them couldn't make them pay for themselves. At least that's what I was told. HB
Did you ever try shooting it? I tried, it was very difficult. Since the target was basically going straight up you had to shoot several feet above the target. The bottom quadrants (higher scoring quads) were basically impossible unless you knew exactly which one it would be in. You had to say pull and pull the trigger at the same time otherwise it was already out of the lower quadrants. You had a little more time on the upper ones. If you like hitting 2 or 3 targets out of 25 go ahead. I am sure with practice and also knowing where the target is being thrown I could have scored better.
Back in the day it was so popular, our Club President thought we should put one in. All I remember was even way back when, it was cost prohibitive for us.
Well, you're obviously the grammar GURU around here. I bow to your overwhelming intellect. So, be it Spock....
Some people just can't shoot a Challenge, and cannot handle a challenge. I like Challenges, In fact I LOVE THEM. GB...........................................DLS
I have NO idea what you mean by that. All I did was type boring in CAPS because I agreed with you. You know, CAPS to show even a stronger feeling. I am pretty smart though, thanks.
So Doc, if we don't agree with your assessment of this game and think watching it is boring we are too "wimpy" ? Think first, type second. BTW, NOTHING is more "challenging" than Flyers.
How many foreign countries had them? The Click had some I did not Recognize, Where was the Clip shot at? GB......................................DLS
Any game that involves guns/shooting is a non-starter on any TV channel that might attract sponsors of any consequence. If you want a challenging game that is already in place world-wide and can deliver anything that you fantasize for starshot you need look no farther than ZZbirds/ helice
If he was still alive, José (Pepe) Manauta might have something to say about what a "challenge" is when it comes to shooting a shotgun.
Gary et al., I do remember Star Shot. I doubt I missed an episode. But it died from no, zero ratings. Truth is, bringing it back would probably not draw enough to pay to produce it, let alone put it on TV (though Netflix seems willing to buy anything and put it up). Folks have been trying to make shotgun sports interesting for spectators about forever. Even in the Olympics where trapshooting is pretty exciting with those rocket fast and hard birds no one cares. They only use the flash targets for the final 25 or 50 shoot-off and the only ones watching are the other competitors who had to stay there with their teams. Back when folks were not sickened by killing (and wounding) pigeons for fun, pigeon shooting used to draw crowds. But they also shot for what was, at the time, a lot of money. And, pigeons do very interesting and different things when they are released. The primary reason there is no money in professional shooting is it is boooorrrrring to watch. How many trapshooters stay to watch even a shoot off in our sport? Maybe a few will stay for a big handicap event. Singles? Oh yea, scintillating. Keep you on the edge of your seat. Shooting clay pigeons is fun. Quite fun. Watching it? Not so much. Cheers. Jake
Boy, you got that one part right. Anytime I just "wounded" one and it made it out I would almost be sick to my stomach just thinking about how much money I just screwed myself out of. I NEVER killed a pigeon for "fun". I don't know about you but when I stepped up to the stake I couldn't get more serious about killing every one of them. The "fun" started when they gave you the money you won.
If you want to try something interesting, shoot ZZ bird. Just bring your wallet. Big prize money, big entry fees.
ZZ Bird They came up with this to try and "simulate" live pigeons. When you can't have the real thing! As far as Big Prize Money? Malloy's Calcutta!!!!!!!
Believe Pachmyer in California had one of these years ago. Would not throw for me because i was only shooter. Wind is a real killer for this big sail game. Really wanted to try it.
