Browning Citori Special Sporting Problem

The opening lever stays way right and the trigger won't pull. I have tapped the butt on the floor thinking it wasn't cocked but the lever won't completely close and the trigger can't be pulled. Can anybody help?

 

You need a stock off inspection. Something may be broken in the action block area. Roger C.

 

If you bought it new --Look under the white foam packing material for a stock wrench -owned one for three years before I found my wrench.

 

Well, I took the stock off last night, looked for what could be a problem but didn't see anything. Then i sprayed some Break Free lube on it and blew the excess oil off but it didn't solve anything so I put it up. This afternoon I thought i would try again and after fooling with it some I decided to slam the barrel shut with some extra force and that let the opening lever start returning to its normal position again and allowed the triggers to be fired. I don't know if something was in the way of its closing and got expelled or what.

Oh rrisum the gun is a fairly new Browning 20 gauge Special Sporting Edition from Guns Unlimited and it has the screw head stock bolt and not the allen head.

 

You should have a gun smith look at the gun. The problem you described is not common with new guns. You could have a big repair bill down the road. Roger C.

Piece of lead, or powder under the cocking lever. That stops the barrel lug from getting all the way into the receiver. This in turn stops the locking bolt from engaging all the way into the barrel lug, which prevents trigger pull from happening with out of battery position.

Steel based shells can sometimes make this happen also. They push against the receiver face having a wider rim in which they do not go into the chamber far enough.

 

Ninety percent of the shells I put through my Citori (2018 model) are steel-headed. Never had, or heard of, this problem.
Sounds suspicious.

Either way, the bolt is not locking far enough into the lug to allow the trigger pull.

Might have been a piece of debris under the ejector, and when you slammed it shut the object got flattened enough the gun would shut.

 

You might be right Mike as after I closed it hard I found a very small piece of paper towel with some powder smudge on it later o

So, did you clean it out....and is it working properly now??

 

I strongly suggest you look for a piece of Lead Shot or Debris, Remove BBl and use a Pick & Scrape under the Cocking Block, and Lug.
