Lead was going up and now back down. I don't know where it is going but I know if the ATA was a bit more progressive we could be using mandated competition loads that are lighter. We need to make the game cheaper. There will always be that idiot that says you can use lighter loads but we know you are disadvantaged at 1 ounce or 7/8 ounce. Is it time to mandate the change?
I am not aware of any rules that says you can't shoot lighter loads if that what you want to do ... There are obviously not a majority that want to go to the lighter loads so they can't change the game for a few ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
WPT.....not that you are slow. But you gotta be. I said anybody can shoot any load. I asked if it is time to mandate a change. I know, like I said. "There is always that idiot that say you can use a lighter load." Is it time to mandate that change?
Heard that the International shooters had to shoot lighter 1oz loads only to find their scores went up?
Warren, Why do they have to mandate lighter loads? WPT gave you the right answer. It sort of sounds like you are trying to be a wise guy. Ron Burdick
How much will you save? You only get 50 more shells out of 25lbs. Not enough to get a big cost saving.
Warren61, You can shoot what you want to, if the game is to expensive for you, why try and change it for everyone. The choice is yours either shoot less or find a new hobby. Roger C.
There you go chase 1 more shooter away! Helping reduce shooting is not a bad thing I'm just not sure if 1oz will make much difference.
I was cleaning up my shell inventory and shot my first 25 with 1 oz. Now that everything is cleaned up, all I shoot is 1 1/8 oz. I think we have ENOUGH rules and regulations we have to follow. Some things are better left to common sense and yes I know that it is on the decline!
To Whom it May Concern, (Warren61, especially ) So, I am slow because someone wants to change the game (Mandate , 1 oz or 7/8th oz shells ) which probably would of been done long ago if it fact it was an issue for a majority of the shooting members or non members for that matter ... There is no rule that says anyone (someone) cannot shoot 7/8th or 1 Oz shells so there does not have to be a mandate and should not be a mandate to make a few people happy (see: feel warm and fuzzy) ... If by chance anyone (someone) is so slow they do not or cannot figure that out, it might be time to change sports and be prohibited from getting a steak knife rather than a butter knife to keep one from injuring them self, bowling is a sport where you can use the same ball and pins over and over and the cost per game is a lot cheaper than shooting sports ... I unfortunately do not reload and can care less if the price of lead goes up or down ... I have shot 1 oz loads by mistake and actually shot them well but to Quote Leo Harrison III (RIP) when asked why he shoots 1 1/8 th oz loads, he said it was because he could not shoot 1 1/4 oz. of 6's ... I would much rather make a few unhappy about the amount of shot than the 90 flats of 1 1/8 th shells in may garage become obsolete ... NO TO MANDATES ... WPT ... (YAC) ... Warren61, I typed this slow so you can keep up, read it twice if you have to, I can only type so slow ... Just a guess, but I figure you will not be donating the $20 Mr Bill Martin suggested at the meeting with the EC ..? T Shot, You obviously were not around prior to the move to Sparta when the members who said they would not attend in Illinois were told that they were not needed and to stay the hell gone ..? They have and the grand has gone to hell since all those invited to stay away have done so ... Don't wish for something because you just might get it ... I am going to go and talk to my toaster now ...
This has nothing to do with Sparta. Limits on shot weight has been around for a long time. Maybe now is the time for a change. Also it may move some of the 27yard shooters up.
T Shot, It will not change who the winners will be. Have you ever shot bunker? their averages went up when the lighter load was mandated. They shoot a harder target with a lower profile target than we do and it is much faster. the second shot is probably a 30 yrd. or more shot. It will not bother the true 27 yrd. shooter. The has beens and wanta bee's will suffer, along with the lower class shooters in singles and doubles. The only way to even up the handicap game is to add yardage to it. Roger C.
There isn't anyone dumb enough, even on this thread, that thinks you are not at a disadvantage using 7/8th of an ounce. Mandating it would keep scores lower, help fix the handicap system. As far as the scores going up in bunker.....they also slowed the targets down. I have yet to see someone that can consistently break em all from the 27 with 7/8th of an ounce. The whiners that fear the change are shooters on the 27 that should be on the 22, and the fat cats that know there wont be any more 100s from the caps. You got some money.......I will shoot 1 1/8 ounce vs anyone that wants to shoot 7/8. I will have a ten target advantage.
Warren61, I bought a small bellows at a garage sale, asked the lady what it was used for, she said blowing smoke up your Azz which used to be a cure for something ... You are welcome to it to make your life easier if you would like it ... Make a note: Nobody is going to mandate anything to keep you shooting so get over it ... I have not shot in a couple of years but would accept your challenge for a considerable wager, but I want to use 1 oz er's - 7 1/2's ... If you ever get to Arizona look me up ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
warrren61, Do you think a 7/8 oz. load will affect the less accomplished shooters? Most handicap shooters can not hold an average of 85% with 1 1/8 oz. loads. You are correct it will affect the scores but not in the way you think it will. I suggest you contact WPT and see if he will sell or loan you his bellows. I am not an advocate of lighter loads they will affect the less accomplished shooters more than the (FAT CATS) . I prefer to call them the more accomplished shooters, because that is what they are. As far as the 22 yd. shooters standing on the 27 yd. line, that is their choice, not yours or mine. If the ATA ever makes reductions mandatory then it will be their choice. The only thing that will even out the handicap game is more YARDAGE for the best shooters. Common sense should dictate this change. Roger C.
So lighter loads won't make a difference but 9 feet will? And the best shooters will still win. And the same people will still say the system is broken!
So please tell all of us at what yardage you believe the best shooters will no longer consistently win. Then tell us how they got there without winning!
Tshot, There is no way you or anyone else can make a winner out of an inferior shooter in an open competition. Again and I will type this at a very slow pace for you. There is no way to even out the difficulty of handicap shooting but ADDING YARDAGE TO THE GAME. Any thing else will affect the less qualified shooters more than the (TOP DOGS) I like to call them, the best shooters. How else could you make the game more difficult for the top shooters and not affect the rest of the field? The ATA tried making winners of the less qualified shooters and it screwed up the total game. If they had put on their big boy pants back then none of this BS would be happening to our sport. The best shooters did what needed to be done to win. Practice, practice, know why they missed, eliminate the mistakes, practice the mental aspects of the game. No rule can make you a champion, you must do it all by your self. Roger C.
You are right the Big Dogs are there for a reason. But adding yards is not going to make them less good. It will add a lot of cost and may not be possible for some clubs! Less shot may slow them up a little. And not hurt short yardage shooters much. More yardage or less shot the Big Dogs will still win most of the time!
Tshot, you are totally off base. Less shot will not put more difficulty on the shooters that can consistentely point targets correctly. But it will hurt the masses. Roger C.
Roger, you tend to forget the current ATA is composed of nothing but trinket shooters who'd rather brag about winning a pewter plate than $$$$$$. Since they don't play a dime in options they couldn't care less about "big dogs" handicap domination since most haven't progressed much past the 21 yd. line in their brief shooting career. History is on our side.
oleolliedawg, Your description of our so called leaders is spot on. They do care about self enrichment. I wonder how many perks are issued with all of their purchases? History is on our side, only if we can drain the swamp. That includes the EC and at least 50% of the dead wood in the delegate positions. tshot, Of course they will win more, they are the better shooters. They did not get that way by accident. They worked at it, they practiced, they sacrificed for it. What do the whiners do? They try to emulate them with out the dedication and work it takes to be one of the best. All complaining has accomplished is to morph our once great sport into a feel good realm for the less accomplished. The skeet organization tried the ribbon trail, and you see how that worked out for them. Roger C.
