The first 3 events were down. Any ideas why. I was thinking collusion between Trump and the Russians.
Actually the numbers weren't as bad as I had expected them to be. Only down 31/27/19 respectively from 2016. Considering that the 2016 Day 1 numbers were the highest since 2007 this years totals aren't all that bad. I had expected with the termination of the original 10 year camping leases attendance could be down significantly, but if Day 1 is any indication it will not. As of now, the weather forecast is good. No heat, wind or major storm issues. Total entries since the move to Sparta have historically been about 30,000 and my guess is this years Grand will be same.
It would be nice to see the Handicap Championship event go over 2,000 entry's for a change, I bet on a lot of things that will not be ne of them ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
Don't know where you got numbers. Singles down 15 shooters HC up 17 shooters Dbl down a few. Not far off last year.
1745 again, could be if the weather turns sour. I was one of the many who canceled out of last years GAH because the weather forecast was calling for heavy rains throughout the day. Coupled with the fact that I was not shooting all that well for the week, I had no incentive to go out and a get my a@@ soaked for nothing. This year I have attended six major tournaments (state shoots or satellite grands) and for the most part I have not seen any significant increase or decrease in attendance. Weather conditions appear to be the major factor for those shoots that have been down. The Ohio State Shoot is a perfect example it probably lost 600+ entries due to the Friday storm. Like WPT, I am skeptical if this years GAH entries will exceed 2,000. But, it should be close, 1,900+ which would be consistent with recent years. T Shot You will find the numbers on the ATA Website (shootata.com). Under "Latest News" the top menu item is 2017 Grand American Championship Results. Clicking on it will bring up the scores menu. You can then click on the individual events which will bring up all the shooter scores for that event and in the top right hand corner of the page it will show the total number of shooters in the event. I am not sure if that is the number that the ATA uses as "total event entries" for purposes of attendance calculations but it should be fairly close.
According to the ATA the Hodgdon Singles was down 31, the Trap and Field Hdcp was down 27, and the Little Egypt doubles was down 19. I don't think 10Guns and T Shot are trying to fool anyone. They just aren't bright enough to compare last year's totals to this year's totals. Give them a pass.
Then they flip flop with a new method of getting scores. Whatever figures are better? LOL Must work for Trap and Field.
Event4 had 903 event 5 had 930 & event 6 had 737. That's off the score sheet count. Not sure what last year was.
Just reporting on the numbers I see. Yours are correct. One other thing I see is not many playing any options. Weather has been great that's not the reason. Not sure why not?
If anyone is interested, there are steaming live nest cameras set up in various locations at the WSRC, quite interesting that there does not appear to be a whole hell of a lot of people there at least at the locations where the cameras are placed ... They do give you a first hand look at what is going on in various places ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
It's only Preliminary week. I was there Tues., Wed. and Thursday. More people coming in every day. All the vendors weren't even there yet.
The event center was packed Sat morning! Lines almost out the door. I think numbers Wil be up. Raining this morning may hurt a little but the week ahead looks good.
Cool & rainy here today. But that didn't stop good scores to be shot! Lots of 200 in singles 3 99 in caps dBm still going on already 1 100!
Robert Hight said after his win last night.... "Now I'm Going Trap Shooting this week" Here is Robert signing my wife's trap shooting hat You rock Robert !
I think the main reason the numbers are down (every year) is something that has never been addressed before ... Think, Location, location, location and did I say LOCATION ..? This was probably mentioned a time or 1745 times in the past but nothing has ever been done about it, until that changes that's the way it is ... Enjoy ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
T Shot, The safest bet you could ever make is a sure thing, I will never fire a shot in Sparta, Ill unless its some clown trying to rob me if I ever get there again ... Then it will not be with a shot gun ... Go bet the farm on it ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
Hello. You are right that location is A main reason (but not the only reason) for declining numbers. Certainly other compelling reasons (as in costs and time) to attend big shoots are right up there with location. There will always be a reasonably large number of financially well-off shooters who will keep Trapshooting going, but many shooters of less-than-wealthy mean$ don't have the financial interest and commitment to participate on any regular basis. They join, go to a few shoots, then find some other less demanding hobby. Best Regards, Ed
Did you see him shooting with Ricky Marshall at the Ohio State Shoot? We stopped and talked to him for a few minutes before we had to shoot. A real class act!!
Today's HC I think event 19 had 1835 shooters. Don't know if that's up or down. Great shooting weather & lots of people about.
Guys, I have been reading you comments about attendance. If the service for shooters not camping do not increase the grand will suffer on attendance. The campers have their home away from home with them, the others do not. Many of our loyal shooters can not afford a camper, when they can not find the services they need in any area they will not come. That may only be one reason that attendance will continue to decline. I just left the grand three days early, it was not fun . There is nothing there but the grand, all else is lacking. Roger C.
Hello. If you are not a gypsy (someone who likes to live camper style or has a $175,000 motor home, you have to learn to live with driving almost an hour to and from the Grand event each day. Not fun! One can see how this would diminish the enthusiasm of many shooters. Regards, Ed
