What are the attendance figures for the Hall of Fame?

Probably not many but would do better as a fish bait and bagel shop for the 11 months/year nothing much related to trapshooting occurs there.

No body believes it but it was probably put in the wrong place for it to be anything but a liability for the most part ... People who attend shoots in Sparta, ( not many of them ) probably go see it one time and then go and watch the grass/weeds grow for a change in scenery ... If they changed the name of it to "The POPEYE Museum" they would probably get more traffic but the location would still be a problem after a while even for that ... This is just my opinion (as well as many others ) but what do I (we) know ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

Surly not as many attending in Sparta as there were in Vandalia.

Vandalia facility was open 5 days a week, where as it is my understanding the new one in Sparta is only open during shooting events.

Gal on the left is Tami Daniel who is the main stay of the organization. Tami still does the research for people, and keeps the records but not on site where she used to be in Vandalia. That gal is amazing.

One of our last stops before they moved. My wife on the right along with good friend, Trustee (The Late) Lynn Parsons in the middle.

I had been to Sparta before the ATA ever thought of relocating there, not impressive but rural America in its finest hour, nice friendly people, kind of laid back , not very worldly, but still breathing ... I had a good Buddy who's family lived there and he was born there , wanted me to see his home town because we had a week end to kill ... There is no way in Gods green acres would I of ever thought of much less considered moving what was the biggest trap shoot in the ATA to a town that had so little going for it , anyplace in the United States ,not only Sparta, Ill ... Dave (my Buddy) sister worked at the hospital and his brother in law was a super for Peabody Coal which is where the WSRC is actually built on strip mined land that was owned by Peabody Coal ... Personally, I do not see attendance growing in leaps and bounds any time soon or ever for that matter taking everything into consideration about the area itself ... If they ever generated the amounts of money that have been claimed by some associated with the ATA it would be a miracle ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

They should name it The National Zombie Museum.

Like all things Zombie, the ATA/Sparta/Hall of Fame/Museum are dead, they just refuse to lay down without the "head" being removed.

More people go there now than would if in vandalia! I have been there it's better than ever! Maybe you should go and see for yourself.

Don't know about that. But if all you Ohio& Penn. shooters would show up at the WSRC you may be surprised!

It should be pretty obvious by now we have little interest in a journey to Sparta. You might say we're a bit spoiled by having so many great shooting facilities within a one day driving distance. Easy access to fine area motels and eating establishments makes the shooting experience much more enjoyable. I suggest more of you Sparta lovers make the drive East and see what you're missing!

I have to give you that based on there is nothing left of the old grounds so obviously no body would show up ... I visited the HOF when it was in Vandalia every year that I went, if nothing changed that was fine ... I would not drive to Sparta (Illinois ) to attend the grand and or visit the HOF because its is off of the beaten path besides there not being anything else there that I personally would be interested in seeing other than a few friends and most of the don't go to Sparta so it would be a wasted trip ... The ATA is supported by the shooters all over the country, not those that attend the grand because there isn't enough of them ... When you cannot get 2,000 entries in the grand American Handicap Championship someone best get out the manual and re read the instructions ... Location, Location, Location is always a primary concern which in this case was given none ... There are to many bigger shoots that shooters can attend without having to go out of their way to attend the grand in Sparta, Ill ... If it gets moved to another location you will see a major increase in attendance ... Did I say Location, location, location ..? WPT ... (YAC) ...

It should be understood that anything positive posted on this site regarding Sparta, WSRC or the ATA will be met with negative replies. It is the nature of the site. Hell, it is the foundation. So coming here and doing so makes it obvious to most readers that the poster is just whacking the hornets nest to solicit these replies.

I have been to the hall when it was in Vandalia on many occasions, always a kinda must do while at the grand. I visited the hall last year while shooting the grand at the WSRC. Most of the content is the same. However the presentation is better at the new location. Of course it would be as the building was built specific for the purpose. (that sentence alone should get the wolves howling on here, lol)

It goes without saying that the hall is in the wrong place. WPT sums that up nicely above and he is absolutely correct. The placement of the grand in Sparta was a mistake. It simply does not have the infrastructure needed to support and grow the venue.

The HOF needs to be at the ATA home grounds. And that's the WSRC. I wouldn't drive to Ohio just to see the HOF!

The ATA technically has no home grounds they are renters in Sparta, Ill (WSRC) but they do have a home office there ... If the HOF is to be utilized to its full potential, it should be where the most people could visit and enjoy it regardless of where that might be ... The ATA had a chance to have a Home Grounds with free money and low interest loans but they made the choice to ignore those that made the offer and relocate to Sparta, Ill, which has cost them dearly in many members eyes and opinions ... Personally, I have been to Sparta, before there was ever a thought of moving the grand there, the thought never would of crossed my mind, no body should have to convince anyone that it was a mistake, look at the attendance numbers from making the move to a little rural town in Illinois and you be the judge ... I met some very nice people when I was there, very laid back and easy going like they didn't have a care in the world ... If I had to say in my opinion what Sparta would be good for would be essentially best suited for would be someone who wants to get out of the hectic big cities with traffic backed up for many miles, retired and ready to lay back and enjoy rural life , not what once was the biggest trap shoot event in the United States known as the grand ... I have not been to Sparta to shoot the grand and won't be anytime in the future for that matter , obviously a lot of people feel that way ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

but, but we were promised tons of infrastructure would magically appear shortly after the Sparta move. Anyone see it yet-oh, I know, it's only been a bit over ten years! The dinosaurs took millions of years to evolve!

    trappermike,

I have said many times on this site that the facility for shooting in Sparta is the finest in the USA. The way it was relocated was a mistake. The people in charge of growing the sport, to match the facility have failed, not only the sport but the people of Ill. that invested $50,000,000. in the endeavor and are now stuck with a loosing investment on their hands. If things do not improve for them it is only a mater of time until they cut their losses and abandon the facility. The up keep on the grounds is more than the ATA can support. So what do you think is the answer to this dilemma? So far I have not heard one plan that does not require a lot of other peoples money. And not a plan for the future of the facility from the leaders of the ATA. Roger C.

Biggest drawback Illinois is an Anti gun, Hillary-Obama state. Not very friendly to ATA gun owners. Brad

Tell me that isn't post of the year! Is that guy related to any of the "stooges"? Blaming the Sparta failures on the two most successful trapshooting states. No mention of the great state of Mississippi and their successful marketing program? hmmmm....figure that one.

No mention of the Illinois voters from the north and south that elected anti gun and felon Blagojevich as the leader of their sport and state.

And no mention of those that hid the corruption in the EC that hid the corrupt backroom deals.

How is the fault of the 2 states that hold 4 of the 6 largest shoots each year? After that post who from the heartland of trapshooting would be part of that failure?

Not me. Good luck with 1745?
